TAMS are letting the world know you don’t have to drive to the cricket on Wednesday:

Cricket fans attending the 2013 One Day International Commonwealth Bank Series on Wednesday 6 February 2013 are encouraged to catch a free ACTION bus to the match.

The match starts at 2.20 pm at Manuka Oval and will be the first time the Australian cricket team has played in Canberra. The team will take on the West Indies in front of a booked out crowd.

One Day International ticket holders are entitled to travel free on any ACTION service on Wednesday 6 February by simply showing the bus driver their ticket to the match.

Free chartered bus services will also operate every 30 minutes from the Woden Bus Station (platform 10) and the City Bus Station (platform 3) between 12 pm and 2 pm. Additionally, a Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets Loop, picking up at Nyrang Street, Canberra Avenue, Manuka Circle, Telopea Park, Wentworth Avenue and Mildura Street will depart every 20 minutes.

Park and Ride services are available at the bus stops on Commonwealth Avenue and the Kingston Foreshore. The carpark at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets will be open to ticket holders from 11.30 am for a small donation to the Rotary Club of Canberra.

A return shuttle service will depart from Manuka Oval to all bus stations and the Fyshwick Markets at the completion of the game.

This cricket event, and the opening of the arboretum, are great opportunities for Action to show people who don’t usually catch buses, how good the buses can be. Unfortunately, most of the buses used for the arboretum opening were the oldest and filthiest on the road. Lets hope they don’t make the same mistake today.

Surely all buses in Canberra are up to a particular standard! Whether that standard is for government employed staff, public service personnel who don’t want their clothes dusty from sitting on a filthy seat or post cricket match patrons who decided to bring the beer snake home with them and laugh as it wiggles its way through the “Next Stop” buttons, dripping warm, stale ale from front to back, we should all enjoy the fact that it’s free. However, “nothing is free.” they say, so what’s the catch with this one?

I did the bus thing for the PM’s XI, not a bad service.

Though one does have to mix with the lower classes on them, no reserved first class seating areas on them. Shame.

The cynic in me says that my bus didn’t show up this morning because there is a cricket game in town and the government would rather provide busses for people this than those going to work.

According to twitter this morning the reason for all the cancellations (they delivered 715 of 726 services), was ‘a few issues and settling back into school routine’. Maybe the ‘issue’ was cricket busses.

I was going to catch the bus in, but every 1/2 hour = long queue and/or long wait if you just miss the bus. Plus it doesnt actually tell you when the buses will be leaving except ‘at the end of the game’. What if you want to leave early? Or if you want to get the game slightly later.

No such thing as a free bus service.

Indeed. Poor buses being forced to follow predetermined routes and allotted times. I say let’s free the buses and let them roam the Limestone Plains in vast herds as nature intended.

No such thing as a free bus service.

I like that Cricket ACT have a link to here for supporter information about buses, rather than to TAMS or ACTION !
