free tennis courts?

belco girl 28 December 2009 13

Just wondering if anyone knows of any tennis courts that can be used for free in Canberra, preferably in the Belconnen area? (Either with or without nets would be fine, as we are basically a couple of hacks just wanting to hit a ball around on the weekends for fun and a bit of exercise).

Or failing that, any recommendations for good value tennis courts for hire would also be welcomed.

I thought going on to school grounds out of hours was trespassing (mainly due to vandalism). NSW schools have signs everywhere. It is permitted in the ACT?

Yup, plenty of courts around some schools; google earth is good for finding them.

I can confirm the courts at Belco High are in working order and there’s some at Hawker College too – though I never was a fan of playing on glass-covered bitumen!

Some new fancy-pants rebound ace courts available for hire in Kaleen – $10/hr.

The new Kingsford Smith school at Higgins has great tennis courts – artifical grass, and nets. Free.

Belconnen High had tennis courts when I went there, not sure if they still do.

When I saw the title of this story I thought we needed to free some tennis courts that were being held in captivity…

Not sure about Belco but we see people playing tennis at the Alfred Deakin High School courts a lot.

Most public schools around these parts have tennis courts.
