Just watched it. Good work, Dean.

Having seen it, I’d like to point out to some of the naysayers here that, to me, the moral of the video seems to be staying away from that kind of life – especially the descriptions of being shot and stabbed, which sounds f-king hell painful. I think it’s good that some people in the community who’ve gone down the wrong track can apply themselves to making their lives better and using their experience in a more positive manner. I also think videos like these would reach younger audiences better, since it’s told in a frank manner and upfront manner.

Can you put it up on youtube?

It took me a while mate but I managed to get the doco up on youtube.
I had to split it in to 4 videos as youtube only allow 10minute vids.

You can watch em by visiting the link below

I also love the way it a free ‘true crime documentary’.

True crime generally has all the facts proven, hence it being true. What you have here is partially, at best, verifiable hearsay

Well I guess besides what I had:
1) the court transcripts which give both sides of each story as told by all who were there including the police who were involved.
2)the guys who commited the crimes giving interviews.
3)storys from the newspapers
….the only better way to verify events would be to be there.

Do you own a time machine vg?
Perhaps you could loan it to me.

I would consider the facts involved here quite proven…I think “hearsay” would be a better description of your comments regarding Doug.

Even the light version is 500mb.

A 40 min doco compressed should be half that.

I’ll watch it on youtube but not at the current size.

I know but I couldnt seem to get it any smaller without suffering a substancial loss in picture quality…I put that down to my inexperience working with video.

Ive been attempting to get it on youtube and should have it on there soon.

I think you might have stuck a foot in the AFP’s nest by posting this up here, Dean, fortunately the stings aren’t much.

You may be right mate.
Hey Ive had a few issues trying to get this thing on youtube, the uploads keep failing but it should be up over the weekend.

I also love the way it a free ‘true crime documentary’.

Are you making an allegation that Mr. Wheldon still engages in criminal behavior? Can we have some facts please? If I was Mr. Wheldon, I would consider my options with these kinds of defamatory statements…

To right, give it a rest vg or just lay it on the table if you have something of true value to add to this post.

I don’t know any ‘Wheldons’

“Besides the the incident with the AFP the other three story’s are all verifiable through police documents and court transcripts which I was supplied when helping write up the plan for filming…In actual fact they were also covered by local news when they occured.

For obvious reasons the AFP certainly would not have documented the fact they helped themselves to money and drugs.”

The most obvious reason being that it didn’t happen. And I do have something of value to add to the thread. The video is bollocks…………..sue me

Hardly. I found it more of a giggle actually. Hearsay allegations from the boys in the hood, backed up by media coverage ……. I fail to see integrity there?

It’s a free world and he is free to make a “documentary”. People can decide for themselves on the content.

Don’t forget the part about them being complete bullshit artists as well.

And what do you base that on vg?

Mate you have said you dont like the boys music, you have said dont want to watch the video so why do you keep returning to this post everyday?

But she loves him …… that would never happen. One credible witness, coming up

Don’t forget the part about them being complete bullshit artists as well.

I mean it must be true because his ex-girlfriend told him it happened. I mean she could never have ripped him off herself……could she? A druggies g/f would never do anything like that would they? I mean they are such honest and trustworthy people

Taken from the linked website
“1) “Ripped Off By The AFP”

Big Dave’s ex girl get’s pulled over by a couple of Federal coppers while driving him to drop off a load of skunk bud to some clients visiting from Goulburn.

Come for the ride as the pigs help themselves to a bit of Dave’s cash and product.”

These guys seem to be non-biased and would give a truthful insight.

Chopping up the video now DMD…Should have that link for youtube by tommorrow night mate.

No, not personal issues

Professional ones? 😉

I can’t imagine this is anything less than total tripe: the website appears to glorify drug use, violence and the “brotherhood” of criminals. Lame.

Heaven help any person with a criminal history who decides to instead focus their energies into creativity and making something they can be proud of. If you don’t like the music, you don’t like the music, but seriously, why condemn something simply because of what the guy’s done in his past history.

OK, I downloaded it and watched it so I could comment with a bit more authority. The rap music and stuff seems fine: it’s not something I would chose to listen to, but that is a personal thing. The issue I have is that the couple of blokes spends a lot of the movie wandering around Canberra, swearing profusely, whilst recounting their criminal past with this misty-eyed nostalgia.

And do we really need to hear each story repeated two or three times? Once while the guy is out on location shot in colour, then again in the black and white, then again back on location in colour… yawn…

Ok first up thanks for having a look before making another comment.
I will conceded that there is a lot of swearing on the video hence the R Rating I gave it but lets get it in to perspective…The guys arent talking about a sunday morning stroll here, they are talking about getting shot stabbed etc and so you have to expect some colourful language.

When I edited the video I thought that cutting back between the guys telling the story and the location stuff was a good idea and I still feel it worked well.
I seperated the location scenes from the interviews by alternating between colour and B/W.
The budget for that video was about $1,200 and the camera, tripod and software chewed about $1000 of the money they laid out, with a big budget I would have liked sky shots/long distance shots/special effects/actors replaying the stories/a panasonic p2 camera…but you make do with whats available/what can be afforded.

As for misty eyed nostalgia I think Dougs final phrase in the video says it all
“Thats my life…F**ked, now I look back and just think life could have been different…But you learn by your mistakes bro..And like I said before, ife goes on.”

Exactly…Would you rather Doug was still robbing people or Dave was still dealing drugs?
The guys are putting in the hard yards and doing something they can be proud of….Good on em!

More of a “brotherhood” of “ex” criminals really and I think the fact that they all have the support of each other helps them not to get back in to thier old lifestyle.
Personally I think it’s a pretty mean feat that they all focus on more positive activities these days.

Did you know Dave runs a hip hop workshop for troubled teens at the Galilee school in Kambah amongst other community based activities?

Sure they talk about violence, drugs etc in some of there songs but hey the national news runs the same themes in story’s every night “police raid” “violence” etc but that does not mean they are trying to promote it…Simply telling it as it is/was.

‘History’ denotes something has ended, if I am correct

I quite enjoy hip-hop. This stuff is try hard crap, written by super-fly gangstas…..well in their mind anyway

I just heard the new album yesterday and yeah its pretty damn good…I think Deadmandrinking is right there are a lot of crime related themes but more from a social commentary position.
I like the fact that when I hear what they say I can be pretty sure its factual unlike the American hardcore stuff where every mc is a scarface type kingpin.

Check out the video vg, i filmed and edited it with dave and doug and I think you will find they are far from big noting themselves as gangstas, in actual fact they come off second best in every chapter which shows a more realistic view of criminal life.

I don’t want to watch any crap that Weldon ‘stars’ in

Personal issues with Doug Weldon vg…never mind watching it then.
Ive only known Doug for a year and he’s been a really genuine bloke but Im sure from his past and the life he used to lead he would have a few people around Canberra that dont like him.

I’d have to disagree. Whilst crime seems to be a big part of their music, it seems to at least be from their experience. It seems to be more about social commentary.

Then again, I’m only speaking from a few songs. But hell, if gangsta has to start here, it might as well be the more socially-aware and political stuff, rather than the b.s. that’s dominating the charts from the states.

Big Dave isn’t bad at all. His lyrics are sound and his commitment to the local scene (and to the rights of prisoners) is admirable. I think it’s good that the local hip-hop scene is beginning to step up.

I take it Hip-hop isn’t for you, vg?

If its from ‘KP Records’ you can guarantee its try hard crap…..especially considering their ‘stable’ of performers. This time, fortunately, their crime is only killing of music.

Crap of the highest order
