Friday dog crackdown

By johnboy - 27 July 2011 29

Territory And Municipal Services are warning dog owners to take out extra plastic bags on Friday as Domestic Animal Services and ACT Policing combine to conduct a crackdown:

“The operation will take place in several areas of Canberra where there has been issues reported to us by the community,” Registrar, Domestic Animal Services, Peter Dinan said.

“This includes particular suburbs, parks and nature reserve areas. The crackdown is part of an ongoing partnership between Domestic Animal Services and the police and is the third joint operation to be conducted this year.

The infringements and fines under the microscope are:

    — Keeping an unregistered dog $150
    — Dog not on a leash in a public place $150
    — Keeping dog not de-sexed without a permit $75
    — Registered dog not wearing registration tag in a public place $75
    — Not carrying equipment for removal of faeces $5

Pity the CT reporter who took this story didn’t ask Peter Dinan how many fines had already been issued for the offences nominated. My guess is ZIP.
And why has not the new regulation “failing to microchip a pet” been included in the list of infringements?
I just forked out $120 for microchipping my 2 dogs and on checking with friends who also have dogs, none of them are bothereing to do the same. So, what goes on?

TAMS should be fined for least user friendly dog map ever.

It’s not that big a deal to carry a couple of plastic bags with you…..

Although someone should let the car drivers on other threads know that the authorities do crack down on offences other than just speeding……

I suspect that poem is really doggerel.

I’m glad they are only cracking down on “Responsible Dog Owners” and not us irresponsible ones.

Why does Dr Suess come to mind – I am dog, dog I am, I am not locked in a yard, nor on tied to a pole, roaming the streets without a collar, plastic bag or control. My balls hang low, I am not neutered nor castrated, look out bitches its going to get x-rated. Who will you fine when you rangers catch me, my owners so irresponsible he’s not even microchipped me.

Dickson Woolies always has a few spare dogs, even some with 2 or 4 legs

The Pooh Police! (they don’t live inside of my head)

I’m glad they’re cracking down on the major issues of the city.

As for Riverside Plaza in Queanbo, they’d have to arrest all the incontinent birds that pooh everywhere, too. I’ve never seen those bastards carrying plastic bags.

It also craps all over our front yard (I have taken to throwing the poo back into their yard, I may or may not have be aiming for their car).

I did had a similar issue with the next door neighbour when we first moved in and half the back fence was missing so his dogs would come and crap in our yard. I just threw the poo back to his side and must admit I was aiming for the back door of his house which is a big glass sliding door. He would come home and there would be poo marks on the door every few days, he must have thought the dogs were wiping thier butts on his glass door.

Aim for the front of the car, you want it to sit on the aircon intake below the windscreen 🙂

I might have to dob my neighbours in. When their little yap yap needs a walk, they just let it out onto the street by itself to run around. I’m surprised it hasn’t been run over yet, we live on a busy main road. It always end up barking at us through our loungeroom window, or barking at our dog through the gate. It also craps all over our front yard (I have taken to throwing the poo back into their yard, I may or may not have be aiming for their car).

Someone has to ask if this includes Riverside Plaza and Charnwood shops. I’ll be the bunny. Touch paper dry and ready for ignition…

What if you don’t use plastic bags and like to just take the poop home in your pocket? Who are these people to judge what measure YOU should use to pick up poop?

poetix 10:24 am 27 Jul 11

Meanwhile the delightful individuals who punch and/or glass people are likely to get community service orders…Surely the police have more important issues to worry about than whether I forgot a plastic bag for my dog’s poo?

How on earth did that headline get approval? My dog could do better than that, if he was unleashed on DAS.

Lol, JB. I wonder who wrote the headline? Boohoo, I just won’t t my dog out for a walk on Friday.

So is the misdemeanor not carrying a bag – or not cleaning up the dog crap?

You’ve got to love the headline: “CRACKDOWN ON RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP”
