Friends Calwell style. Who needs enemies?

By johnboy - 3 February 2012 18

A 20-year-old Gilmore man and a 19-year-old Calwell man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning following an aggravated robbery that took place on Wednesday night (1 February).

Around 10:30pm on Wednesday, a 54-year-old man was at his Calwell home watching television when two men arrived for a visit. A short time later a disagreement took place and the victim was assaulted by the two men.

While the victim was being assaulted, the men stole his wallet, and started to damage his personal belongings after he refused to provide the personal identification numbers of his bank cards.

Once the men left, the victim was able to contact police to report the incident. Due to his injuries, he was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital for medical treatment.

Both men were located by police, arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House. They will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, charged with aggravated robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and property damage.

Oh… crime or no crime committed by this guy, if it were simply an issue of vigilante justice, why did they steal his wallet and try to get his card PINs?

Sorry missed jethro’s comment there. How do you know? How often do the Police release a full story of a crime? I’ve noticed several over my years of paying attention that weren’t all there, leading to alot of readers assumptions being substantially warped in the negative about the people involved.

I don’t know for certain, and am only going off what I read in the media.

What I read was that the people accused of the bashing accused the victim of another crime, this crime was investigated by police and the victim was cleared of wrongdoing. The fact that charges haven’t been laid against the victim suggests this story sounds reasonable.

Besides, even if the victim of the bashing had committed a crime, a non-thug would call the police and report the crime, not bash the crap out of them.

But they did report that 19 and 20 year old men have bashed an older guy in his home – Enough reported, what kid of shit is that? Bashing old people is now a great thing for the young to do is it? I don’t have to make assumptions, its pretty slack to bash an old guy, especially 2 on 1 – Dog act really.

Turns out i actually know one of the guys involved in this (not the 54 yr old) and some of the story behind this, and while i can understand now more why they did it, unfortunately they were stupid about it and now they are lumped in with the rest of the scum committing worse crimes all over the city, when I know at least one of these guys is not.

Ill just say the victim is not innocent.

That hardly rings true, “innocent” or not the victim ended up in hospital. The attackersARE scum and your defending them means you are too.

So in your eyes, someone is ‘innocent’ if they are bashed for whatever reason? even if they commit a worse crime them self? So, just an example, say your daughter is raped, then you go and bash the man that did it, then you accept your punishment for bashing him whilst he walks free… are you the scum and he is the innocent? The scum that i am would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Also, Tooks, thanks for that, perhaps you might try reading what I said in my comment next time, before you call me an idiot? Maybe you’ll realise that’s in no way what I said at all.

Thats why there is the law, they are there to sort it out. Sometimes they don’t get it right every time. Taking the law into your own hands with a bit of vigilante justice in the example given above then it is likely to bite you in the arse.

You then become no better than the person who comitted the original crime, you then become a criminal.

My Mum used to say “Two wrongs dont make a right”, truer words were never spoken.

If in this case, the victim had admitted some crime before your friend and his acomplice bashed him. Then they had ample opportunity to go and tell police and leave the man’s home. But they chose to stay there and take things into their own hands didn’t they?. If that isn’t the case here, but it was an older guy who got a bit pissy, and mothy – then yes your friend and his accomplice are scum. If you don’t like someone, don’t go to their home, if they do something to offend you while your in their home – leave. It’s quite simple, you don’t have to bash people. Ever heard the old saying ” It takes more of a man to walk away from violence, than it does to inflict it”? – Just sayin..

Yes, it’s all the victim’s fault. You are an idiot.

If you are referring to the allegations about the victim that the two people made, from what I have seen in the media, these were investigated by police and found not to be true.

wow, there has to be more to this story. Are the people involved known to police?

Well, two of them were arrested by coppers and one of them is the victim, so they’re certainly known to Police now.

dpm 11:02 am 03 Feb 12

Hmmm, they didn’t think this through too well…..
I wonder how shocked they were when the cops dropped by.

NoImRight 11:00 am 03 Feb 12

And they would have got away with it if not for you meddling kids.
