Frocktober

Frocktober is upon us, and Rock Your Frock is throwing a dance party to celebrate, and raise some money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Did you know that ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, with one woman dying of it every 10 hours in Australia? While survival rates are excellent when ovarian cancer is found early, there is currently no early detection test and most women are diagnosed in the late stages, when the cancer has already spread to other organs.

October is also known to some as Frocktober – a month long fundraiser for ovarian cancer research. Frockettes wear dresses (or frocks) throughout the month raising funds as they do so. Last year Frocktober raised over $220,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. This year there will be numerous events as well as sponsored individuals, raising funds to once again support this worthy foundation which is searching for an early detection test.

Rock your Frock is Canberra’s dance party to support Frocktober, but it is about more than just raising money for research into ovarian cancer. It is a fantastic night of dancing for all styles. There will be great prizes on offer including Dendy tickets, high tea at Adore Tea, a massage from Canberra Day Spa and a gift voucher from Alchemy Bar. The best dressed competition is not to be missed – the emphasis is on dress, no matter what your gender!
