Frozen Gua Bao in Canberra?

Hi guys,

I really want to make gua bao, except that I don’t actually want to make the bao part (even David Chang of Momofuku says he buys his bao).

Does anyone know where I can obtain these buns- they are usually frozen, no filling but I’ve tried a dozen different Asian grocers and can’t find them anywhere.

I also am seeking a supplier of frozen gua bao buns. I’m located in central coast area of NSW. Our local chinese supermarket says the only supplier she knows about no longer supply this product.
So if anyone knows a supplier in Sydney or north as far as Newcastle, I’d like to know !

Upate: Have convinced Supabuy in Dickson to stock them. Recipe is on my blog too if anyone wanted to try it – http://akitchencat.com.au/gua-bao/

I don’t know, but I can sell you a gas bottle…

Argh, I thought so! I’ve seen practically every type except the type I want…

You’ll be hard pressed to find the flat oval ones in Canberra, as I’m sure Sydney restaurants get them through suppliers up there. You can find at least three different shaped Mantou-type buns in the number of Asian groceries in Dickson’s Chinatown.
