Andrew Barr has the happy news that 2013’s Australian Women’s Golf Tournament at Royal Canberra will have LGPA sanction:

This is a major coup for women’s golf in Australia and only serves to strengthen the Championship when it is played for the first time in the national capital at Royal Canberra Golf Club during Canberra’s Centenary celebrations.

Canberra has a growing reputation as an excellent location to host major-sporting events and there is little doubt this high-profile event will bring in a good many visitors to the city over the four days of the event both nationally and internationally.

The Championship also offers the opportunity to increase the profile of Canberra to national and international television audiences as it is expected that LPGA sanctioning will increase the international media contingent following the event.

This will mean a fair bit of international TV coverage for the event. Womens golf is a hugely popular sport in the US & asia now.
It will be good exposure for the ACT and, on a personal note, hopefully Paula Creamer may come & compete!
