Can anyone recommend a furniture maker to make a dining table?

A little bit of misinformation here.

The guy in San Jose is very helpful but only a retailer of the same products as most of the others in that “Strip”

Ozcro Furniture also sell the same products – BUT ALSO MANUFACTURE! This is a very rare commodity in the current furniture market where more than 75% comes from China.

If you are unsure who manufactures and who doesn’t, ask to see there production facility. OZcros is under the building there in Fyshwick as the guy (Mario) showed me when I brought some bedroom furniture

Thanks everyone!

+1 for Uneke Furniture

Some of these people’s tables look lovely. It’s not cheap, but not outrageous either, and made in Wagga, I think at least some from recycled timber. They are in Fyshwick now:

They make to order as well.

A lot of the pine shops in Fyswick, eg San Jose Pine, can make furniture to order. Whether they make dining tables I’m not sure, but check them out.

Not sure if they’re still there? But seconded if they are. I had a cabinet made to special measurements, the thing was sturdy and nicely-finished. I still have it, actually. it’s pine, with that masonite stuff they put on the back, but it was better made than the stuff that’s in whitewood shops. And if you want proper boards on the back, or proper shelves inside (not pyneboard) I imagine you can spec it up.

Look no further than Thor’s Hammer (http://www.thors.com.au/). Their work is top-notch and their service is very attentive. I’ve had a dining table and a coffee table made by them, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m not sure how they compare with Uneke, but it is worth visiting them before you make a decision…Good luck!

try hall markets

The owner of Apple Cabinetmaking used to work for a well known Canberra high-end joinery, but left to start a business based on more reasonable pricing.

Try DM Design & Joinery. Duncan makes beautiful furniture. info@dmdesignandjoinery.com or 0412 162 845

Uneke Furniture in Fyshwick – either custom build or will modify one of their basic designs to suit your needs. However, not incredibly cheap as they use real wood (ie not pine or mdf). On the other hand, the woods are so beautiful that you can’t resist. My dining table from them has lasted 15+ years with hardly a scratch, despite multiple kids. One word of warning – the dining chairs cost more than the table, so factor that in if you want chairs that match the table! These are the guys for lifetime purchases but its not over the top expensive.

The wood gallery in Bungendore can put you onto some good craftsmen, but I’m not sure they will be cheap.
