Last year we were alarmed by major systemic failures in the monitoring bracelets used at the Monaro Marriot. With the prison’s design predicated on using the bracelets to control the movement of prisoners it’s a bit of a big deal.
Today the ABC informs us the bracelets have been scrapped.
Corrections Minister Chris Bourke has defended axing the program.
He says the contractor did not deliver what it promised.
“This was the first time that this particular ID system, ID bracelets, was going to be used in Australia,” he said.
“You can always expect that if you’re at the cutting edge that there may be issues.”
We hired an incompetent contractor to implement technology widely used around the world so that’s OK?
