Hi Everyone,

I just notice Fyshwick Bridge Stone service station is offering a full car service for $89. I am not sure if I could trust them.

Some of this kind of deal comes with hidden surcharges. I called them to confirm but they told me no surcharge at all.

I want to ask if someone got experience with them?

Any information is much appreciated.

The funny thing is I got my tyres fitted there just after having my car serviced at the authorised dealer, where despite paying $350 for the service, they tried to tell me my tyres were illegal and they would need to fit a new set for $900

The tyres they wanted to fit actually cost more like $500 for a set, are dodgy as hell in the wet, and my tyres were not yet illegal (but were down so that’s why I was already booked in to have them replaced at Bridgestone).

Exactly the same thing happened to me at a major dealership on Josephson st in Belconnen. Same one?

Yep, it’s all about the upsell – you”re pretty much guaranteed to get a call saying something needs fixing – ie. while servicing they discovered your muffler bearings were shot and your halogen fluid is low.

Not saying this particular bunch would do this, but the worst practitioners of this method will, if you decline to go ahead with their $800+ worth of work, then claim the vehicle is unroadworthy and can’t be released to you otherwise they’ll be “liable”.

They used to do good work there on my sh*tbox XD Falcon back in the late ’80’s. Things may have changed since then. 🙂

I had my last set of tyres fitted at Bridgestone Fyshwick and they did a good job for a price as good as Jax and Kmart.

Moral of the story, don’t think paying more or going to an authorised dealer will get you any more honesty or value.

I am sure that Bridgestone will do a very good job for $89. Generally speaking though, these type of ‘specially priced’ mechanical services ‘get you in the door ‘. They are usually accompanied by a 10,000 point safety inspection where a myriad of minor mechanical problems may also be identified. After the concerned phone call seeking your approval to fix the problems, your $89 suddenly turns into $890…Cha Ching!

Been there, done that…and as long as you know what to possibly expect.

Would be very interested in the replies you gather. I used to go to a drive-in guy at Woden, but the bus company took back the premises. They are doing a lot of radio advertising, at least on 2CA.
