Police swooped on Fyshwick early this afternoon sealing off streets and setting up barricades after reports of suspicious activity in the area.

It was believed police had been negotiating with a person or persons with a gun in the Canturf building off Cessnock street but police later said the matter had now been resolved with no arrests or injuries, and remained under investigation.

Police had blocked off Cessnock Street and Goolwa Place but a staff member at a local business said about 2pm that they had been told the barricades were down.

She had earlier been told that there was a man armed with a rifle.

The area had been swarming with police, including armed special response officers and dogs. An ambulance was also on site.
