Fyshwick Too Demanding for ACTEW?

By DarkLadyWolfMother 10 February 2010 9

From someone who works out there, I hear that large sections of Fyshwick have been having multiple, daily power outages for the last two weeks.  The area affected appears to be at least from Towsville St through to Harvey Norman (Barrier St).  One person suggested the entire Fyshwick ‘suburb’ might be affected.

From talking to people who have apparently talked to other people ‘in the know’, it seems that quite a few new buildings/businesses have come online in that area recently and the substation isn’t able to deal with the load, hence the blackouts.  It’s badly affecting the one business I have a contact in, so I suspect many others are having just as many problems.

I haven’t heard of any ETA for a solution so far.

Feel free to throw in better knowledge than ‘friend of a friend’ or, of course, any conspiracy theories you may have knocking around.

What’s Your opinion?

I blame global warming.

HAHAHA! A common and sadly accepted excuse/response for anything these days isn’t it?

I would say it’s only been limited to Townsville Street recently, but there has been a lot of work at the Oaks Estate Zone sub-station as well.

The power grid network is almost like a series of water pipes. They can open and close almost any section whilst maintaining power to a nearby area.

Interesting side note, is that the Canberra Times printing press is one of, if not the most high demand electricity users in Canberra.

You could also add to that equation Dairy Farmers and the Airport.

havent heard any comments from local business customers nor been affected at my work or any nearby, townsville street area.

I think this is one of the reasons they want to move the current switching yard and build the new substation near Eastlake.

Very difficult to pick out a good DVD in the dark even when it’s the middle of the day. This coinciding with the planned internet filter. Coincidence? Only if you like your orange juice warm.

Pfft, I just want ADSL2+ out here. Porn and fireworks just don’t cut it any more.
