Chief Minister Stanhope is blowing the horn for Canberra’s Gamma Vaccines:

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope today joined with Canberra company Gamma Vaccines for the signing a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with Indonesian Biotech Company PT Bio Farma and PT SOHO Group.

“Gamma Vaccines is a relatively new Canberra company that is quickly making its mark on the global biotechnology industry,” Mr Stanhope said.

“Securing this important agreement with two highly regarded Indonesian biotechnology companies demonstrates the calibre and quality of what Gamma Vaccines has to offer.

“It is also pleasing that the ACT Government has been able to directly support the growth of Gamma Vaccines through grants totalling almost $30,000 that have helped the company develop and market its products.”

Gamma Vaccines was established in July 2009 and is developing GammaFluTM, a universal flu vaccine that the company hopes will end the need to produce new influenza vaccines each year.

Commercialising work from ANU’s John Curtin School of Medical Research we can only hope it goes well.

I’m not sure what a Memoranda of Understanding is, but anything that helps keep working scientists in Australia is good news.
