Garbage truck ablaze

A patient with burns to his body has been transported to the Canberra Hospital by the ACT Ambulance Service (ACTAS).

A garbage truck caught alight near the Hawker Soccer Club this morning, Monday, December 16.

One fire crew responded along with a Commander.

The fire was extinguished quickly and crews are remaining on scene for investigations by Worksafe ACT.

The cause is yet to be determined.

11:29 AM

ACT Fire and Rescue have departed the scene of the garbage truck fire at the Belconnen Soccer Club, corner Springvale Drive and Belconnen Way, Hawker.

The thirty-eight-year-old man suffered superficial burns to 15 per cent of his body, including face, neck and arms.

He was transported to the Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

A call was made to Emergency Triple Zero (000) at 10:42am.
