ACT Policing arrested a 27-year-old Garran man in relation to a house fire in Monash earlier today (Wednesday, July 10).

About 4.45am ACT Fire & Rescue notified police they were in attendance at the Griffin Place residence. Police officers attended to find the house well alight.

There were no people inside the residence at the time of the fire. Early estimates from ACT Fire & Rescue value the damage at around $300,000.

The fire was extinguished, and the scene handed to ACT Policing Criminal Investigations. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the man at an address in Garran. He was transported to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with Arson and Contravention of Order.

He will be remanded until tomorrow morning, where he will face ACT Magistrates Court. Police will oppose bail.
