Gary Humphries wants to take away your car

It’s been a while since we gave Gary Humphries a kicking. But what with Kate Lundy being hero of the exploited restaurant workers I guess he needed to do something to counter feelings of relevance deprivation.

So today he’s announced that he’s unhappy that the ACT only halved the road toll from 2005 to 2006.

Gazza will only be satisfied with no road deaths at all.

One presumes this can only be after he takes all our cars away and chains us up in our homes to prevent accidents on foot, bus, or rail.

Noble but unlikely. We’ve got brains designed for us to go about 15 mph or 24kph, tops and not for very long.

Until we take ourselves out of the equation, I think road accidents and, consequently, deaths are inevitable.

JB, I think you’re being a bit harsh on poor old Gary. You said he was “unhappy” with the road toll, yet he said he “welcomed the figure” and that it was a “big improvement”.

I think a zero road toll is a noble goal. Though it might be a bit unrealistic, we should be striving to reduce deaths further. Even if the road toll gets down to 1, I’m sure the family and friends of that one person would prefer it to be zero.

Llamafrog, do tell more about this banning of motorcycles from your getto…….

Maybe the ACT Government can regain it’s Clever, Caring Community badge by spearheading the development of the Nerfcarâ„¢.

No mention of how many of the unlucky 13 were P Platers. Hmmmm.

More bullshit rhetoric without any committment to actually doing anything useful.

llamafrog, motorbikes have been banned, i don’t quite get what you’re trying to say ?

Pandy: Seems to me that Gazza is just as guilty of taking free kicks. Where in the media release does he give any actual suggestions as to what could be done? My eyes are good enough that I don’t need glasses, and I still couldn’t find any positive suggestions – just him taking any opportunity to bash Labor, even over a greatly improved statistic.

I must be tired….I read the title and in my head I’m thinking “WTF does Barry Humphries care how many people die on our roads?”

Anyway….the car is a killer and always will be until some smart cookie develops the complete auto-pilot with auto car/pedestrian/dog sensor…even then the car will still kill people. Drive safe and watch your back…the only way to even have a remote chance of staying alive on the roads. Anything else in an invite for something to go wrong.

Cyclists are struck on the roads. Ban cycling (especially those gay recumbant ones (c)Barking Toad)
Pedestrians get hit crossing roads. Ban walking.

FFS Gary. Get relevant.

strange without cars it would be safe to ride motorcycles. That would be except my getto has just banned them, and not just the kid ones that make more noise then a lawn mower, but all motorcycles! Belconnen the Paramatta of Canberra

I see nothing about him wanting to take cars away and I have new glasses. As for free kicks, keep your mits off my mate.

The ACT Labor Government is doing a pretty good job about parking, road infrastructure to take away our cars.
