Gas in Kambah

This in from the ESA who are having a busy day:

10:45am Monday 13 December 2010 – Smell of gas in stormwater drains ACT Fire Brigade investigating a smell of gas in the stormwater drains on Boddington Crescent Kambah, near the intersection with Bacchus Circuit.

No evacuations at this time.

Unusual gas readings have been recorded by fire brigade crews on scene.

Two pumpers from the ACT Fire Brigade, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and two Command officers on scene.

Contractors notified the ACT Fire Brigade of the smell of gas.

UPDATE: And now this:

11:45am Monday 13 December 2010 – Update on smell of gas in stormwater drains. Gas technicians have detected a leak in an underground pipe.

ACT Fire Brigade will remain on site while technicians carry out repairs.

No evacuations necessary.

UPDATE: Game over:

1:35pm Monday 13 December 2010 – Final update on smell of gas in stormwater drain. ACT Fire Brigade has departed the scene as technicians have completed repairs.

Apparently they can’t now, the ACT Government has included the whole of Kambah into the non-smoking zone.

Thanks for this post. I was redirected by the police on my way to work and wondered what was going on (because I’m nosy like that). I knew where to come to find out!
