Gas Leak in Phillip

The following in from the ESA:

1:50pm Friday 2 July 2010 – Gas leak leads to evacuations in Phillip The ACT Fire Brigade have blocked off parts of Phillip this afternoon following a gas leak on Townsend Street near Grenville Court.

Firefighters from the nearby Phillip Fire Station are on scene evacuating nearby buildings.

So if you were wondering what’s going down, this is it.

UPDATE: And there’s more:

2:15pm Friday 2 July 2010 – Update on gas leak Townsend Street Phillip remains blocked off between Botany Street and Colbee Court.

Firefighters are conducting atmospheric monitoring while contractors use an excavator to access the leaking section of the pipe to repair it.

Evacuation of nearby buildings remain in place at this time.

FURTHER UPDATE: And it’s all over:

3:05pm Friday 2 July 2010 – Update two on gas leak Contractors have stopped the flow of gas from the leak and are now working to repair the affected area of piping.

The area remains blocked off.

The ACT Fire Brigade is still on scene with two fire pumpers, HAZMAT crew and Command.
