The Herald Sun is reporting on gastroenteritis at Canberra Hospital:

A statement issued by ACT Health today said a number of patients at Canberra Hospital were sick with Noro virus gastroenteritis, which can cause vomiting and diarrhoea.

“At the moment we have one ward closed as an infection control measure,” the statement read.

“Infection control staff (are) working hard to reduce the risk of further cases.”

Visitors are encouraged to wash their hands when they leave.

NEWFLASH!

doctors are the worst hand washers – followed by nurses – apparently allied health are the best (which is weird as we do less hands on stuff and I often feel I am letting the side down)

Years ago I read an article on infection control (sorry can’t recall by who or where – but I do remember it was at a time I was in at TCH with a very sick baby so it would have been around 10 years ago). I recall there was an issue with the pens that were used by Drs/Nurses. A patient would be examined, the pen placed back into a pocket or tray and then the health professional would wash his or her hands. The result being the bacteria was on the pen, alive and ready to be passed on.

Although, on the bright side, its spring so almost summer and losing a bit of weight in preparation for the beach is in everyone’s interest.

Or 3 weeks. And ever increasing antibiotic tablets.

– If everyone stayed home for a week, could we cure the common cold?

And not nice little sniffle colds, but the sort where you trhink it’s “the flu” but it’s not… and you get it despite the flu shot, so it’s roabbly a cold. And you’re still layed up for a week.
