Hey jesse,

Recently we got some welding work done for our fence for our property in bonner. Was in the same boat like yours and was recommended Jo in fyhsiwck.

I visited his shop and was quite impressed, they did lot of custom work and specially gates.

He did good job for our fencing as well.

I have got their website address bookmarked – http://weldwise.com.au/

My 2 cents.

If you want heritage style gate, this mob – who advertise in Gardening Australia – look good:

The ad says ‘custom made to any size, delivery Australia-wide’.

Can you let us know how you go with your gate?

Thank you everyone. I have decided to have them custom made by a firm at Fyshwick. I reckon they will do a pretty good job with the made to measure gates. Will let you know how they turn out.

You didn’t say what type of gate you have in mind, but should it be the wrought iron sort, I was directed to Canberra Gates and Doors a while back. I didn’t get as far as getting quotes at the time so can’t vouch for them, but their card describes them as architectural metalworkers who make gates, steel doors, window grilles and handrails.

we got ours from Stegbar for a colorbond fence/gate system – they are make to any odd sizes that are needed! Got a professional to install

Dunn and Faruggia in Queanbeyan. Last time I was there they had a lot of cancelled/ not picked up orders on sale. Real good quality steel frame and colour bond panel gates for ranging from $49 to $99 for the big ones. Good bargains to be had if you’re negotiable on colour or willing to paint it. Regular prices are better than I’ve seen anywhere else either for the quality, and their matching fencing systems are easy to assemble and reasonably priced too.

Bunnings et al likely stock “Fortress Gates” products which are universal and go up to 1.8m wide (single leaf) and 2.1m high.

Depends on what you mean by a “garden gate”? Most fencing contractors will be able to build and install a gate. If you want to do it yourself, you could also try Stratco at Fyshwick – they should be able to build one to your size.

My comment was NOT to bother with WR. 😉

Bunnings have a range of DIY bits that can be assembled into gates of varying sizes, but if you’re looking for an installed solution then try a reputable fencing company. (I advise against WR Engineering.)

Thanks for the comments. Have looked at Bunnings but the gates (2) are really odd size. Will have a look at Masters and will obtain a quote from WR.

I’m thinkin you may have to hit bunnings , or the new hardware mob at the airport.
It’s been a few years since I got one from bunnings. From a rather addled memory the gates they have are of a standard width, but you can get them in diffeent heights.
