The Canberra Times reports that Ms Anne Moore and the owners corporation of the Kingston Foreshore Gateway Apartments are off to the federal court seeking redress from the Land Development Agency and Bovis Lend Lease over sub-standard construction.

It must be pretty bad to draw this kind of public attention to their very expensive real estate investments.

I hadn’t realised that this developer was Bovis Lend Lease. just goes to show what lying, self-serving crap was being put out by HIA/MBA/PCA when they said that the shoddy building was by a few fly-by-nighters.

The builder was BLL. The developer was actually a JV between St Hilliers and the Kingston Foreshore Development Authority (which got folded into the LDA).

You’re right though, good luck to the owners.

Guys, the problems are endemic across your industry and the sooner you accept the truth and do something constructive about it, the better.

I wish the owners the best of luck – they will need it, because the scum known as the building industry will throw everything they have into this. Defeat for them will have significant implications and they cannot allow that.

Wonder if this will be the start of a trend? Memory of a certain building in Barton that has a reputation for popping windows.

When will they build the marina (complete with speed boats) that seems to have been in all the “artists impression” promos of many Kingston developments ?

I don’t know, but when they do, I’ll be motor boating around outside their windows early each morning. 😉

I’m pretty sure that’s what I said 🙂

The problems they’re having are related to digging a hole next to a lake and not planning for the water ingress.

I still hope the whole lot collapses and people learn not to build high rise apartments on mud flats next to artificial lakes. The lake was supposed to be the scenic centre of Canberra, not a magnet for stupid rich people’s hovels.

Yeah, funnily enough when you dig a big hole near a lake or watercourse, you get lots of water seeping into it.

Personally I’m hoping the whole lot caves in and people learn not to build high rise apartments on mud flats next to artificial lakes.

There’s not really anything wrong with building next to bodies of water, they seem to manage just find in other parts of the world. The issue building poorly next to bodies of water.
