The Age informs us that one of the sharpest men to ever walk the corridors of power, David Gazard, is running for the Liberals in Eden Monaro.

David Gazard has the unique distinction of having been an adviser to John Howard, Peter Costello and Tony Abbott. And now he is poised to enter federal politics himself, as Liberal candidate in the nation’s litmus seat.

Mr Gazard, a former journalist and now acting director of the ACT Liberals, has lived on a small goat farm south of Canberra for years.

I’d be a bit concerned if I were Mike Kelly.

Having just googled him, he seems a bit churchey for my tastes. But he’ll likely get my 2nd or 3rd preference, above Labor, but below the Pirate Party and the Greens.

I dunno – I thought Gazard sounded a bit fruity on 666 this morning, Ross Solly gave him a pretty good going over. That said, Kelly was very uninspiring – parroting the lines du jour from party headquarters. Fruity vs Uninspiring may well make for an interesting contest.

In that case Krudd should be worried, too, given the recent trend of Eden-Monaro going to the winning team, so to speak. The Monk as PM, it couldn’t happen could it?!
