Senator Humphries has put out a proud media release on his triumph in securing some pork for the ACT.

Senator Humphries, a strong supporter of the Orchestra, has for years lobbied the Federal Government for funding. He was delighted to announce that it had secured $400,000 over 4 years.

“Australian Government funding is to be provided to the Canberra Symphony Orchestra in recognition of the important role the orchestra plays in the cultural life of the national capital and surrounding region,”

So what’s Kate Lundy going to do for us?

UPDATED: Comrade Stanhope has acknowledged Gazza’s contribution.

Yeah, but not even Gazza actually says it was in response to his lobbying.

And odd timing on this – it was announced by Senator Rod Kemp on 10 May 2005.

But as we know DT, governments often don’t act on recommendations. I know people in the Orchestra who will be happy the Bearded One made it a certainty.

“The funding responds to a recommendation of the Government’s Orchestras Review 2005, conducted by James Strong, and is part of an Australian Government funding package of $25.4 million for the nation’s orchestras.

The Orchestras Review 2005 recommended Australian Government funding for the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, noting the important role it plays in its community and its success in building community support.”

Someone’s taking credit for something he didn’t do.

Good work, Gazza!

Kate is probably going to commission a Union workplace assessment to see that all the CSO’s instruments meet current regulations for ergonomics and OH & S standards! “Oops, sorry, but you can’t use that Cello anymore, it’s unsafe, and will require redesigning.”
