Gazza claims Canberran of the Year has been politicized.

Like a junky coming back for another hit, Senator Humphries has been unable to resist the urge to put out a media release on local politics, complaining that the Canberran of the Year awards are being turned into an ALP rally.

ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope is apparently attempting to turn the 2006 Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards into a “Labor only” event.

Mr Stanhope, who is presenting the Awards, has excluded Liberal politicians from the invitation list. This has disgusted Mrs Petronella Wensing, 82, who was due to receive a Canberra Gold certificate to mark 50 years living in Canberra.

It’s nice that Gary could find an old dear to be outraged for him. But it does beg the question, why weren’t the Liberals invited?

aren’t labor members not allowed at flag ceremonies at public schools (even if they’re the local member) because they’re funded by the federal government, sound like they’re just getting some of their own medicine.

No question gerty,

just that the bearded one should have his eyes on the national prizes.

Or one of the local libs should have picked up the ball and ran with it.

Considering Nero was banned by the Feds (Libs) for his ‘politicisation’ of the New Citizen and Australia Day ceremonies, perhaps it is payback time.

Who would want to go to the Canberran of the Year ceremony and hear him whine about how bad this country is anyway?

The old bag on the radio this morning sounded pretty genuine and disappointed about the whole situation. She didn’t sound like a Lib stooge and even mentioned the Greens.

Great metaphor JB. But let’s never forget that all politicians are media junkies.

Except Julia, of course. She’s just feisty.

**UNpopular**

I would have thought their election results would have indicated to them the obvious.

Canberra is a Labour town, and they aren’t popular.

Popular people generally don’t get invited out.

I thought Dr Foskey attended the opening, Roland.

roland, didn’t it used to be usual for all MLA’s to be invited to government functions?

Only Labor Members were invited to the opening of the new Griffin Centre, and those same Members then made comments that the Liberals weren’t interested.

fell, or put her up to it?

anyway seeing as all of us who were here in 2003 won “Canberra of the Year” there’s not a lot to play for anymore is there?

Standard policy on all government functions.

And that old dear is a bit of a letter-writing identity of a rather passionately right-wing persuasion, shall we say. Can’t believe Gazza fell for it.
