Perhaps nervous about a “reclaim the Senate” backlash, our Liberal Senator Gary Humphries has launched a campaign to sort out FM radio reception in Tuggeranong.

“Currently, the only ABC FM transmitter in the ACT is located on Black Mountain. As a result, reception in certain parts of Tuggeranong is poor due to Mount Taylor.

“ABC Classic FM and JJJ listeners seem to be the most affected, but I am also interested in finding out if Tuggeranong residents are having trouble picking up other stations such as FM 106.3 and ArtSound,” Senator Humphries said.”

Concerned Tuggeranongers can get the survey from Gary’s website.

UPDATE: The following communication has arrived from within the FM104.7 bunker:

I noticed a story on Riot last week or so about the poor FM reception in the Tugg Valley.

Just a heads up 104.7 is now running a repeater service in the Valley transmitting from Tuggy Hill on the following frequency 100.7. This will alleviate all transmission drama’s once you head down Drakeford Drive and get the fade out. Especially good news for those in North Cooma suburbs off Calwell, Gordon etc etc

An insider tells me that one Peter Langhorne is the new Nutt! He’s the former chief of staff to John Anderson and a Nat! Anyone know anything else about him?

It’s been Chris Pyne in the “face seat” for at least the last two years.

Is it just me, or does that link to the homepage of Good Lord Gary not actually work?

Nairn doesn’t sit there by choice; it’s a very cunning seating arrangement cooked up first by Graeme Morris years ago, and then perpetuated by Tony Nutt in the PMO. Now that Nutt’s moving into the new position as political head honcho adviser I wonder who will look after seating arrangements behind Little Johnnie!

As for the ‘other’ Gary (Nairn), he’s a do-nothing and a yes man who always sits right behind the PM on the parliamentary broadcasts, to look as if he is actually doing something other than nodding and smirking. Can’t believe he’s still in!

Gary does stick up for the ACT. He crossed the floor over the civil unions issue, which in fact was also a struggle about ACT rights. I for one have not forgotten this and intend (though left-leaning in nature) to vote him back in.
Can’t hurt to have the local Members (Annette and Gary) united on such things as radio reception. We all rely on radio in emergencies when mobile, internet and power failures occur.

Bubzie, ‘north Cooma’ is a ridiculously harsh slur considering they broadcast from south Yass!

Guess the poor b*ggar has to maintain some sort of a positive profile. Very difficult when Gary Nairn’s water grab is restoring the Liberals ‘mean and tricky’ image in Canberra, and Great Leader is banging on about how 5 years gaol without trial is more than anyone has a right to expect. Have I missed it, or has Gary H kept totally silent about the Gary Nairn’s water swifty?

Residents immediately under Mt Taylor (Kambah) have not had FM reception since this part of the then-boondocks was developed in the late 70s. If Annette Ellis really wants to keep the locals supporting her, and bugger off this neo-con pretender Senator, then she’d be doing something about it. It has been raised with her office countless times, but nothing gets done. C’arn Annette. Get that damn thing fixed. I’m sick and tired of not being able to listen to FM radio!

hurray, i’m soo now using that.

(north cooma? how harsh :D)

Nice to see Gazza’s on the big issues.

Wow, you’re right Kenneth – awesome! I still really, really want ABC Classic FM, though…

I couldnt get JJJ yesterday, in calwell, which is pretty close to tuggeranong hill, which really does need a radio transmitter, of some sort.

(and yes, i was so devastated..i was missing out on the hottest 100, god dammit..)

terubo, yep News Radio is on Tuggeranong Hill.

Woody Mann-Caruso, you should be able to get 100.7 and 107.9 (FM104.7 and MIX106.3)

This is only, what, six months after Annette Ellis did exactly the same thing? Nice to see Gazza’s up with the current issues, then.

I got a letter from another pollie about last year about this – can’t remember who, some old chook. Bugger all seems to have happened. I can’t get any radio reception at all in Gowrie except Valley FM. We’ve got a fantastic line of sight to Tuggeranong Hill – s’pose they could put a repeater up there.

I actually got a knock on my door from the Senator on the weekend about this issue, so i was pretty chuffed as I got to put my point forward. Bring on more door knocking and more surveys so that the Government actually knows what I want!

And doesn’t ABC News Radio also have a Tuggers transmission site?

Correction, FM104.7’s translator is on 100.7

Interesting how he mentions MIX 106.3 in that. Both MIX 106.3 and FM104.7 are transmitting from Tuggeranong Hill (and have been since around the end of December or so). MIX is on 107.1 and 104.7 is on 101.7 or something like that.

Also, ArtSound is in the progress of getting a translator operational.

All we need is the ABC to stop saying add a proper antenna etc. and actually bother to add translators. Then things will be good.
