GDE or Monaro Travel Time

cmcn 19 May 2011 10

I’m about to start a new job and will be travelling from Forde to Phillip.

Whereis.com.au seems to think this will take me 36min if I travel past the airport, Fyshwick and up Hindmarsh… I suspect that between 7 and 9am that just won’t happen. It seems like it would be better to go down the GDE.

Any ideas on how long it takes using either route?

Canberra really isn’t THAT big. Drive to your new job early, get a rough estimate of how long it’ll take, plan from there, done.

You, I love you, and you are correct, love the name.

Ride your mtnbike – GDE, Lyneham – O’Connor – Bruce ridges – Black mountain around the lake – cross scrivener dam and you are almost there.

Probably quicker and you will arrive at work fitter and with a smile on your face.

I live in Gunners and generally leave at 9. Gets me to Woden by 9.30. Moral of the story is that if you leave before 7.30am or after 9am, it will take you around 30mins. Between 7.30 and 9am? Much longer.

Once the road works on the new Majura parkway start I would not be going that way, however till the GDE is finished Majura might be the quicker.

I live in Gungahlin, work in Symonston, just off Hindmarsh. Leaving at 7:15am and going via Majura rd, past the airport, onto the Monaro and then onto Hindmarsh, I’m usually at work by 7:45am. Leave any later and your travel time will be longer though.

I have a radical idea to provide an answer to your question. Just follow these two easy steps:
1. Take one route one day and observe the time this takes.
2. Take the other route the next day and observe the time this takes.

I leave Palmerston @ 7:15 and use the GDE, then turn left onto Hindmarsh to Woden, arrive @ 07:45.

GDE pre 8am your chances are good of reaching Woden by 9am.

If you’re still at Mitchell anytime after 8, call ahead, you’re going to be late.

go down the GDE, up the tuggeranong parkway and onto hindmarsh. I am near hume and travel to bruce every day. I avoid the monaro, preferring the tuggeranong parkway as it is far faster to work and home.
