Canberra Rotaract would like to invite all fellow Canberrans to a seminar titled ‘Gen Y, Gen X and the Baby Boomers: Working past the stereotypes’. This seminar will explore the motivations and traits characteristic of the generations of working age, and how they can better engage to work towards common goals. This is especially useful for building stronger relationships in the workplace, and to engage people of different ages in your work, social and family relationships.

Avril Henry, intentionally respected for her generational exploration expertise, will present this seminar. You may have also heard of her as an advisor to the Chief of Army on diversity projects, or may have come across her speaking at a conference on managment/leadership.

This event will be held at the Hellenic Club in the City, 13 Moore St, Civic, from 6pm-7pm on Tuesday 4 March. Entry is by donation, with proceeds going towards the local and international projects supported by Canberra Rotaract (Pegasus Riding School and Rotarians Against Malaria). Please RSVP by 3 March by emailing canberra.rotaract@gmail.com.

*What is Rotaract? It is a community service and professional development organisation for 18-30 year olds. It exists internationally and is in the Rotary family. Further information on our club is at: http://canberra.rotaract.org.au/

You know this is bullshit when you are 50 years old and have applied for a “senior” position with the ACT Government only to loose out to a 25 year old with lesser qualifications who is related to the person in charge of the job selection.

Yes just keep telling yourself thats why.

Wait until it happens to you, sonny boy.

I’d never heard that Generation Jones thing, but it sure is accurate. I was in late high school when Thatcher was terrorising Britain, and we lived under the daily expectation that Ronald Raygun would let loose his atomic bombs at Russia. I left school while Howard was treasurer and there were NO jobs, but the older people figured the unemployed were all bludgers and there were jobs for those who really wanted to work.

I cannot fathom how they can lump people born in the 60s into the same generation as people born in the years just after the war, it was a different world. I certainly could never answer any of the questions in the baby boom version of Trivial Pursuit.

Yes if Rotaract cant change the way we look at ourselves and label others who can?

Interesting article Switch!

Same here. For years I was Gen X, then suddenly they re-drew the dates and I was a Boomer! But had nothing in common with “Boomers”. Whoever re-drew the dates didn’t seem to realise that us 64s were still at school in the early 80s. Idiots.

Born in 1964 makes you a “Generation Jones,” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones

I am glad they are looking past the stereotypes, as they are crap. For instance I am supposedly a boomer but all my views/attitudes etc are totally Gen X, given I can’t remember a thing about the boomer period, as I was too young. And I detest being pigeon holed.
