German Autofest 2008

This Sunday from 10am-3pm the German Autofest will be held at Rond Terraces by the Lake, just off Anzac Parade. It’s pretty much a show’n’shine of all things German. There’ll be the usual array of classic old Mercedes-Benz and Porsche models, as well as current day cars from all the major some great old air cooled Volkswagen Beetles and Kombis, and, of course, much, much more.

Autofest has historically been blessed with great sunny weather and the forecast for Sunday is no different (fine, partly cloudy, 21°C).

Entry is free to all visitors and there is people’s choice voting for your favourite cars if that tickles your fancy.

I’m guessing missed that a 1961 (IIRC) BMW Luxus won best in show (overall). The Goliath was also pretty cool and there was a beautiful two-tone silver Borgward Isabella coupé.

The highlight for me, though, was the unassuming 1996 Audi RS2, the only one in Australia, and one of only 180 RHD models in the world.

Kinda funny you guys don’t seem to notice the older german cars?
Borgward,Goliath-Hansa, NSU,Early BMW?
The designs contributed toward the modern car profoundly.

Daimler made some very stylish cars!
Conquest Roadster was parked near manuka Oval in the late sixties as a boy i lusted after it on my way to school! Classy car!!
Daimler SP250 was pretty too!

But then i own a Zagato Lancia , so i only see the world as weird or boring?

The more the merrier Roma. 🙂

Considering that my partner is both a car freak, and staunchly proud of his german heritage I have no doubt we will be there this weekend 🙂

My motorcycle was made in Germany. The eastern part.

The large number of Daimlers at the Terribly British Day must really irritate the Huns.

It works both ways, (BMW) MINI owners are not really accepted greatly at British or German car days. So the MINI owners often just say stuff it and go to both. And I thought days like this were supposed to be about having fun, and leaving dreary office-like politics behind, haha!

It must irritate the Brits no end that “MINI” can now be included on that poster!
