Get fresh - Buy local

The Fair Dinkum Food Rally has got me thinking. (This is the official name of the tractors from Tassie protesting at Parliament House.)

I support the idea of buying Australian produce. In fact ideally I’d like to buy local produce from as close as possible to Canberra.

Fruit and Veg in Canberra is often none too fresh. Anyway – does anyone know a website which lists truly Australian produce? Also, does anyone know of a good vegie shop in Canberra – or has anyone tried out the Farmers’ Market at EPIC on Saturday mornings?

I love the farmers markets – and there are some great characters down there!! fresh produce and I haven’t noticed it being more expensive…just better quality.

I don’t know, I think Thumper may have scored an overseas jaunt with an international aid program.

BTW, are we off topic?

Assolutemente correctissimo.

fala portuges ? (I’m guessing from here) O nia hakarak 4:30 orai.

Yeah, the last one. ‘4.30’ always means ‘beer’ where Thumps comes from.

One of those words has got to mean ‘beer’, right?

You’ve still got my Timorese handbook haven’t you ?

I’d grow my own, if I could water them.

I have no sympathy for those whingeing farmers. They either get big or get out of farming.

Do they see the irony when the whinge about imported vegetables, yet they’re riding into town on imported tractors? Mind you alot of those tractors were fairly new looking as well (Deere tractors aren’t cheap).

Free trade is fair trade. Fucking rent seekers looking for another pork barrel.

We get our fruit and veg from the farmers markets whenever we can. Its much better than what you would get elsewhere and cheaper.

EPIC markets are tops, as are the Queanbeyan Farmers’ markets. My fav is the coffee stall, which locally roasts coffee grown in northern NSW! The veggie shop in Dixon can be pretty good, too, although I have no idea where the stuff comes from.
