Word on the street (and on ABC666 this morning) is that 15,000 tickets have already been sold for the Socceroos vs Kuwait game at Canberra Stadium on Thursday evening. Canberra Stadium are also expecting about 4,000+ to buy tickets at the gate. So to avoid the lines (and missing kickoff) it is highly recommended to buy your tickets in advance. You can get them online at Ticketek.

Also, does anyone know if there will be buses running from the major interchanges? I heard that Action has stopped doing it for Brumbies and Raiders games because of misbehaviour (or something) and Deane’s were doing it instead. I can’t find anything online as yet.

Nambucco for someone who won’t “head out there to watch third division football week in, week out” you certainly seem interested enough to bag it every time there’s a posting. If you don’t like it then no biggie – the rest of us can’t wait and it’ll be fantastic if it gets off the ground.

I won’t bother restating the case again – you can go to the bid website to see the money that’s been lined up, the numbers of supporters pledges and foundation members, and the events that have taken place. The FFA will make a decision and if its positive I think we’ve got a good shake at getting a successful operation off the ground.

Who knows, after a few good seasons we may even see you sneaking in behind the food van and hoping no one notices.

So, to clarify:

W-League side getting to grand final: ‘Brilliant, ‘massive filip to Canberra A-League bid’.

W-League side’s wheels drop off, internecine wrangling all over the papers: ‘Nothing to do with us, guv. That’s a different Canberra United. But look at all the people who came from interstate to watch the Socceroos!’

Football Federation Australia has said that a big turn out at the Socceroos game will be a good indicator of support for an A-League team in Canberra. Whether one agrees with the metric or not is irrelevant because the FFA are the ones making the decision.

I think you will find that the W-League team is run by a different body that is separate to those behind the A-League bid. Sadly, on some level the W-League as a whole is still an amateur operation. No players were paid and I suspect many of the administrators involved were doing it for the love and not much money (if any).

go the socceroos! let’s hope the support here is a fillip to the canberra a-league bid.

What has an international match got to do with the Canberra A-League bid?

I would imagine Robbie Hooker’s ‘amateur hour operation’ and ‘is it a social club or a sports club’ comments about Canberra Utd should have more bearing on the A-League bid – and the consortium’s ability to run a multi-million dollar franchise- than whether Australia can sell 25,000 tickets for a competitive international.

I will be attending the match because your’e right, Astrojax – big football matches are an unparalleled experience- and I want my ten year old to experience one. I can’t afford to fly him to the Jose Alvelade this week so Canberra Stadium it is. But that doesn’t mean I’ll head out there to watch third division football week in, week out.

good on ya, phantom – i hope for you, and me!, it is a great experience.

big football matches are unparalleled, from someone who has been to the camp nou and sporting lisbon’s home ground… i rekkun it’ll be a good game; kuwait are going to be nippy, enthused and hard to manage, but we should have enough guile and composure in the midfield to edge them if we play to pim’s plan.

go the socceroos! let’s hope the support here is a fillip to the canberra a-league bid.

I am attending with 3 office mates. It will be the first big soccer match that I have attended.

Just found out that Action will be providing free special bus services to the Socceroos game courtesy of Football Federation Australia. See http://www.action.act.gov.au/buses_to_the_soccer.html for details.

I emailed Action this morning. They replied that just the normal (No.7 ?) to the stadium from Civic or Belconnen interchanges – so no extra buses for the game. Pathetic Action!

I bought my tickets about 2 weeks ago and couldn’t get more than 5 seats in a row. No biggie though, should be a good night.

I bought my tickets last week.

Then a few minutes after finalising the payment I was offered some corporate seats. Haha, don’t you hate that!
