ACT Policing has arrested a 22-year-old Nicholls man after a man was stabbed in Civic overnight.

Police will allege an altercation occurred between the two men outside a pizza store on London Circuit around 3am today (Saturday, July 16).

Police attended the store shortly after the incident occurred, where the alleged offender had been detained and disarmed by security staff from a nearby licensed premise.

The 28-year-old male victim was taken to Calvary Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his hand and stomach. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The 22-year-old man was also taken to Calvary Hospital for treatment of injuries to his hand, before being taken to the ACT Watch House to be held in custody.

The alleged offender is expected to be charged later this afternoon with possessing an offensive weapon with intent and intentionally wounding.

a knife protects no-one, it’s not a shield, and if you pull it in anger someone’s going to be in a world of hurt (quite possibly the person who pulls it).

I fully agree.

Let’s hope he’s named so that public scorn is heaped on his empty head.

‘Yes, I stabbed and killed that guy, but it was because I was having a bit of an episode while bombed on booze and prescription drugs that I deliberately consumed for my own pleasure while out clubbing. Therefore it’s ok.”
.

I wonder how he’d react if we responded with “cool, the prison wardens will be allowed to drink, use prescription drugs and carry knives while you are in their custody.”

What the hell is the matter with these idiots? Too pissed to have an active brain cell perhaps?

How could this have got to the point of using weapons? Why are people carrying weapons in the first place?
.
Lots of questions and not many answers, I guess.

Or perhaps the young man in question was defending himself? Maybe he carries the weapon for self defence and protection? I hate how people jump to conclusions. Especially when it involves alcohol in the equation. What if he was on medicine that when combined with alcohol has side effects? Next time before you judge someone and call them an idiot consider all the facts first.

Perhaps if he was on meds, then he should make an adult decision and not drink. People should take responsibility for their actions and stopping blaming everything else.

What everybody else said. Don’t carry knives. No good will come of it. Especially don’t carry a knife or any other weapon if you are prone to using drugs that are legal or otherwise. If you carry a knife and you use it to kill or maim another person (because killing and maiming is what weapons do, after all) then don’t expect a giant shitload of sympathy from the rest of the community, me in particular, who are not carrying knives.

‘Yes, I stabbed and killed that guy, but it was because I was having a bit of an episode while bombed on booze and prescription drugs that I deliberately consumed for my own pleasure while out clubbing. Therefore it’s ok.”

Words are beginning to fail me.

I actually had to re-read Sarah’s post because I could not believe she was being serious.

Sarah, the fact that you try and rationalise someone’s utter disregard for their own safety and that of others (i.e. willfully mixing what I assume is prescription meds with alcohol and then carrying a dangerous weapon that could potentially kill or seriously maim) is concerning. I just hope that you never p*ss him off when he’s downed a bottle of something strong that’s interacting with his medications and you know, gets out a knife due to his delusional state of mind perceiving an imminent threat. But you know, totally understandable. Good luck.

Carries a knife for self-defence: illegal
Carries a knife while drinking and on medication: idiot
Stabs people: idiot

Sorry if I jumped to conclusions.

Absolutely. Carrying a knife ‘for protection’ is a BS excuse. Stay away from trouble and you’ll never need it anyway.

What if he is a fork phobic who has to carry a knife to eat with? What if it wasn’t the stabber who stabbed the stabee, but the stabee who stabbed the stabber? What if he was being mentally controlled by the CIA in a brain warping experiment? What if all stabbed men were actually women and somehow unicorns were involved? What if his drink had been spiked with LSD and he thought that the guy he stabbed was an enormous pink wombat called Ernie?

I hate how people jump to conclusions. Especially when it involves alcohol in the equation. Next time before you judge someone and call them an idiot consider all the facts first.
