Ghost hunter group?

I’m looking to meet up with a group or possibly even form a group of people whom are interested in the paranormal.

My boyfriend and I enjoy visiting haunted locations and taking photographs and footage and reviewing them for anything out of the ordinary. We haven’t been successful so far, but had a ball visiting Monte Cristo homestead as well as Picton this weekend just gone.

We would love to meet up with like-minded people on a regular basis to investigate Canberra and surrounding regions.

If anyone is interested, please don’t hesitate to contact me at executey@gmail.com

Hi guys,

Unfortunately this trip has been cancelled 🙁

Collector is not too far outside of Canberra, it’s on the way to Sydney I believe.

I am currently making arrangments to book a meeting room at the Burns Club in Kambah (it’s on Kett St near the Kambah Village shopping centre. The reason we have chosen this venue is because it isn’t too expensive to hire a meeting room (about $100), and I’ve had a lot of involvement with the club for years.

Chris and I are looking to set up a named group, we’re working on a website at the moment. I’ll keep you updated on that one too.

We have views to meet regularly in the future to organise hunts for research and fun.

Once again, I’ll keep you posted, please feel free to let me know if you have any comments or suggestions 🙂

Jen

@Berraboy68:
For those of us who either live southside\have scheduling problems, I reckon we just assemble a bunch of people and go on our own ‘convening-with-some-spirits’ night at the Burns Club.

Hi Jen,

How far out is Collector? I have an appointment in Wanniassa at 3:00 pm, but I’d still like to go if I can be back in time.

Great to meet you too!

: )

thoroughly enjoyed the night, wish i could make the collector run, but the chances are pretty slim. will have to see when your next event is being held – perhaps, as discussed on the southside. Might make it easy for berraboy to attend, as well.

Of course, Fabforty. We haven’t been on our nightshoot yet. I haven’t forgotten you, though.

You would be most welcome, justsayit!

: )

I think Jen will let people know the details closer to the date.

I would be really interested to join you on your next trip. Also note you can see real zombies any week night at the bulk-billing Phillip Medical Centre. May your GP always have an appointment slot so you never find yourself among the withdrawn of the living dead.

That’s great, Thumper. Me too. There’s a group somebody knows going to Collector in July. Apparently a policeman was shot out the front of the pub by bushrangers, so they will probably grab a bite of lunch and check out the vibe.

It was lovely to meet everyone, Jen. Thanks so much for organising this. I look forward to the trip to Collector.

: )

I will be coming as well, friday is shaping up to be a really bad night for me – sorry granny, but the the night pass for saturday has been approved. if there are any southsiders who need a lift and are close to kambah, please let me know on peterdotholland98@gmaildotcom – I have 4 seats vacant in the car.

good chance to see the harcourt again…

Note to self: do not forget to do this!

It’s a damn shame Thumper’s gig’s on the same night. I was really torn about which thing to go to, but I’ll go along and enjoy some more of that Feldony goodness next time.

: )

Shoot2Thrill8:10 am 25 Jun 09

Great 🙂

My partner Chris and I will be there slightly earlier, I’m not 100% sure what we’ll have on the table so that you can recognise us, but I am sure we will think of something.

It might just be a balloon or something else similar to that. (I know, kinda dorky, but I don’t know what else to do lol)

Please email me at executey@gmail.com with your RSVP and I will supply you with mine and my partner’s mobile numbers so you can call or text us if you have any issues 🙂

Jen

I expect to be there also, Jen. How will I know who you are?

Sounds good to me. Thanks for organising it, Jen. Look forward to meeting you then.

Shoot2Thrill11:21 am 23 Jun 09

Ok

So we’re in for the George Harcourt on Saturday the 27th June at, say, 8:00pm?

Does this sound good to everyone?

I would just like to point out that car-pooling is a more sustainable way to travel. Great idea, peterh, and a very generous offer.

: )

motleychick said :

It’s such a huge drive. Lol.

motleychick, and any other southsiders that are interested, I have a car with 4 seats spare. I don’t drink, am perfect for designated driver… we can always work something out.

Some restaurants have small function areas to the side, such as Mecca Bah in Manuka, and there is a Turkish one at Jamison that does too.

Shoot2Thrill3:54 pm 22 Jun 09

Ok guys

Time to make a decision I think!

I’m happy for Saturday night over the Friday night, and I am hoping for some other suggestions of venue.

Ideally, it would be great to be able to hire out a conference room or something at like a club or something, somewhere where we can all hear each other and such.

Ideas?

I’d be interested in either date, and have no probs travelling where-ever 🙂

Glad this will be on next weekend instead of this one, as I’m pretty sure I’m fine for either night next weekend (Thursday may not be so good). I’m happy to travel to the George Harcourt and visit my old neighbourhood. Civic is much closer for me but it’s such a pain to find a carpark on the weekend. Having said that, I’ll go wherever the majority wants to. It should be fun!

I can’t go on either of those dates, but I’d be happy to wait until the next time if majority of people are free. And somewhere in the city would be nice to meet.

I’ll go anywhere the majority votes for if I’m free on the actual date.

Shoot2Thrill12:40 pm 17 Jun 09

Perhaps we should have a vote?

Firstly, I need to know how many people are free on either Friday the 26th or Saturday the 27th of June for meeting up for either dinner or coffee etc

Secondly, I need to know your preference of location.

If you’re not comfortable posting it here, please feel free to email it to me at executey@gmail.com and we’ll sort something out 🙂

I hope to see a decent turn up, and I want to be able to make it on an evening that suits most people.

Think of the scenic implications! Think of it as the final frontier … think of it as an opportunity to boldly go where you’ve never gone before.

*chuckle*

Or not ….

Or I’m just lazy…

It’s such a huge drive. Lol.

Aw, c’mon guys! It’s not Monte Cristo or even Picton. Just down the GDE and you’re practically there. It’s a breeze!

Shoot2Thrill11:25 am 17 Jun 09

Yeah I agree, that’s too far away from me too. I originally went with the Pancake Parlour idea as it’s sort of in the middle of South Siders and North Siders alike, so it’s central.

I’m still happy with that, but if anyone else has any ideas of places in or near Civic which would be suitable, let us know.

ginninderra village. next door to cockington green.

That’s SO far away from me! Maybe I’ll wait till there’s a closer meeting. 🙂

motleychick said :

ginninderra village. next door to cockington green.

(over in cut lunch territory for us south siders)

I can’t do Thursday either, I’m afraid. But don’t worry, I’m sure I will make it to the next one.

We just have a trivia night on Friday to raise money for my daughter’s special school, and on Thursday night I am meeting with some other parents of kids with a disability.

Usually I am much more free than all this!

I’d be interested in coming… But where is George Harcourt? I’ve never heard of it before. :s

Shoot2Thrill10:17 am 17 Jun 09

We could even make it on to Thursday the 25th of that suits better?

I’m pretty flexible…:)

will try and get the obligatory leave pass…

Oh, right! Better make it the 26th. It would be better to have Thumper there for a ghost thing, I think.

I can do the Saturday 27th, but not the Friday. What time were you thinking?

Shoot2Thrill8:59 am 17 Jun 09

Ok guys…

I was thinking of having the get together maybe next Friday or Saturday evening.(26th / 27th of June.)

What does everyone think?

And in lieu of the Pancake Parlour, do we prefer the George Harcourt? (Myself I have no idea where that is, but my partner assures me he knows)

Let me know ASAP 🙂

Jen

I’d like to get in on this too. Sounds like fun.

The owners of Pancake Parlour are Scientologists. Or, at least, that’s the story that’s been doing the rounds for at least the past ten years 😉

hahaha do tell!!!

Eh? Something I need to know about the Pancake Parlour?

not just a purveyor of delicious pancakes….

they have a dark side.

Eh? Something I need to know about the Pancake Parlour?

I just like pubs, especially English styled ones as I am english..

Why does that sound like a line out of ‘Little Britain’? LOL.

And in response to your “what say you”, I reply in a military voice, “Roger that, Ghostrider”

I like the George Harcourt, and it’s nice and close! Ooh, and kind of atmospheric for ghost stories if you wanted it to be ….

I’d like to suggest that we book a table at George Harcourt or something?

I’m in! GH is also a better venue than the Pancake Parlour (I’m not keen on Scientology myself) even though it’s further away for me.

That sounds really pleasant, Jen. I just might email you, myself!

Shoot2Thrill8:22 pm 11 Jun 09

I am really overwhealmed by the amount of support I have received both on this website as well as emails sent to me over the past couple of days.

I am considering arranging a time to meet everyone interested in person and discuss experiences.

Would people be interested in attending say, either a dinner or for coffee perhaps this week or the next?

My partner Chris and I were thinking about places we could all meet that wouldn’t be too crowded, but woul have enough room for all of us to sit together.

We came up with the Pancake Parlour as an idea, pancakes are pretty sweet.

I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions on location, and get a rough idea on how many people would be interested in coming.

I would have liked to be able to hold this at my house, like a dinner party with wine/drinks and such but I really haven’t got enough room, and I live very south side. \

Either way, let me know what you think 🙂

Jen

It certainly makes you think. A good article about crop circles was in Times 2 the other day. 80% can be explained but 20% cannot.

Leonard Nimoy talking about bigfoot, spontaneous human combustion, etc. Top show. Wish it was available on DVD.

Brings back wonderful childhood memories from the late 1970s to early 1980s. But of course here in Australia it was presented on channel 7 as ‘Great Mysteries of the World’ with its own peculiar creepy intro credits. The host, Scott Whatshisname’ was fairly cynical and dismissive about the whole show though…

I remember “In Search Of . . .” quite fondly, but it was with the introduction you remember, and I thought it was on the 7 network. The last time it was shown on tv the episodes were introduced by a douche that had nothing to add, and who gave away things which happened in the episode, probably a “star” that the station didn’t know what to do with after signing them up.

Woody Mann-Caruso1:17 pm 11 Jun 09

The blur in the photo looks like it was done with the smudge/blur/eraser tool in Photoshop / Gimp / whatever. Got the RAW file straight off the camera?

No matter how hard I try, as a sceptic, there are somtimes incidents that offer no clear explanation.

And a rational person always says “Just because I don’t know what it is, there’s no reason to go inventing a supernatural explanation.”

I shot a wedding at Cooma cottage – 200 something shots, a lot of them with just bridal party after all guests had gone, it was overcast and windy (Crappy day for a wedding, and taking photos of a wedding) – Nothing untoward.

I was last to leave the venue, bar the caretaker who I chatted with at length, and at nbo time did I feel as creeped out as I have in other places.

Peewee Slasher12:55 pm 11 Jun 09

No matter how hard I try, as a sceptic, there are somtimes incidents that offer no clear explanation. You know that goosebumpy, hair standing up kind of reaction that happens? Sometimes, it’s just a cold wind or a noise that catches you offguard. Other times, not.

The photograph taken at Cooma Cottage, is a case in point. I don’t believe in lots of things, but whilst visiting Cooma Cottage, I entered the ladies drawing room. The rest of the place was really interesting, but in the drawing room, a sense of fear set in; didn’t see or hear anything, just didn’t like the room and left; pronto. Told my wife, it was giggle for her. (I do look forward to the day when she laughs at my experience and some freaky, motherf..ker ghost screams at her to stop laughing. By rights I should end up laughing at her, but I’ll probably have a heart attack and shit my pants (not in that order)).

Ever watched “Picnic at Hanging Rock”? Whilst in the Flinders Ranges, I and others saw a coloured mist descend into the gorge and an eerie feeling kicked in. (Agent Orange from a crop duster? A revolt from Smokers Anonymous?) don’t know. It happened.

Kanyaka ruins in the Flinders Ranges. Camped there. It’a totally deserted set of ruins. Had a small population in the 1800’s. I woke up in the night and heard a bell and the sound of a horse galloping – too many drugs? Probably. Anyway, walked the site in the morning and the information sign stated that a stockman lost his life in the flooded creek whilst rounding up stock. The bell? Turns out, the bell was rung whenever storm or flood threatened stock. Packed up camp and drove!!!

Lastly, there was room in my childhood house which I entered one night and there were four figures gathered around a box shrouded by a red light. Instantly, there was ghastly shrieking – my brothers were developing photographic film. (The first sentence can be used to describe different circumstances).

Serioulsy, I have curious nature about all things ghosty after having a few weird experiences.

what do you mean, again?

Katie, don’t get me wrong here. I’m not a “refuse to believe anything” skeptic. I’m more what I’d call a “critical believer”. I believe in ghosts (I have every episode of Ghost Hunters and quite a few of Most Haunted), but I’m of the opinion that any evidence has to be subjected to fairly rigorous scrutiny.

In terms of your photo, you say “it appears to be in the background”. What leads you to say that? It isn’t behind any foreground objects. The only thing that can be said for sure is that it’s in front of the verandah.

Other observations: It’s blurry. That would imply that it’s either very close to the lens, or moving rapidly, or both.

It’s illumninated. That would imply that it’s being hit by the sunlight, bringing it well forward from the shadow cast by the verandah.

Unfortunately, in paranormal research, the onus is on you to show us why the object in the photo is NOT an insect close to the camera, beyond the proclamation of “it looks odd”.

Can I ask that if you do organise a group to go out at night that you and everyon ein the group treat all sites with the respect they deserve, as I would hate to lose any opportunities as a photographer on the behaviour of those who have been before me.

Cheers and good luck ghost hunting 🙂

Interesting photo Katie. But, in all likelihood, an insect flying close to the camera.

very weird photo Katietonia!

where is a good place to upload the photo to?

I remember I loved a show called Project Blue Book. Not ghosts per se (actually, it was UFOs), but I remember loving all that kind of stuff & I’d hang out for the show every week. I wasn’t into Disney on a Sunday night. Just Project Blue Book, The Goodies, Countdown & Bewitched.

Serioulsy, I have curious nature about all things ghosty after having a few weird experiences.

If you want a place to visit that is apparently a hive of supernatural activity, try the Quarantine Station in Manly.

The tour was pretty good, and even if you are a sceptic the historical aspect to the tour is also quite interesting.

Besides not seeing anything spooky, the only thing that let the tour down was a few people in our tour group that were so open to suggestion that every little thing was a apparently a scary ghost or a mysterious orb.

what’s the number for ghostbusters again?

sexynotsmart9:28 pm 10 Jun 09

Jeepers people, have you seen the weather forecasts? It’s cold out there.

How about we do it in summer?

PS: Egon is telling me to shut up. Proton packs are up to 2% more efficient in colder weather.

I would normally love to be a part of this sort of thing – I’m a bit of a sceptic, but an open-minded one who’s had some interesting experiences! However, with four weeks left until I’m due to give birth… probably not the best timing. I wonder if seeing a ghost could bring on early labour? 😉 More to the point, I’m a bit tired and clumsy for sneaking around spooky places in the dark. lol

Its the orbs man, the orbs…..

Notice how digital cameras invented orbs?

Something to do with Composite Metal Oxide Semiconductors picking up dust lit by flashes a lot more eh ?

I take photos in the dead of night at supposed haunted places all the time, the only thing I have ever seen that scared me was a mannequin dressed in drag. True story that.

Odd, that. With so many genuine examples of photographic evidence of the paranormal, you’d think it’d be easy to get a snap or two of Casper. Have you tried the usual summonsing rituals?
