Giants edge closer to greatness with their merch

giants merch

A reader has sent in the observation that the GWS giants have added an intriguing level of customisation to their merchandise, but still fall short in the reader’s view:

Got all excited that I could finally get some Giants merch I’d be happy to wear….

Sadly not as it turns out. Couldn’t customise the back view (see pic). When will the Giants learn they have disenfranchised a whole population with a short-sighted and patronising name.

I was a foundation member, but never became a full member due to the name. If the AFL were serious about creating a team (even if only partly) for Canberra, they would never have called it GWS… or perhaps their marketing brains trust is simply lacking?!

Important to note, you cannot customise the back view which reads ‘greater western sydney’. If you could, they would have got $39.95 out of me immediately, and I would’ve turned up to the ground proudly waving it round. Now they get neither.

Is that the photo of the world’s worst G-String?

Why are sports tops so expensive here….do they include a donation to the league or something, or is it just price-fixing by the clubs?
You can get an official EPL soccer shirt for the equivalent of $60 anywhere in Europe, the US or Asia. They cost about $10 to make and all come from China/Thailand.
I tried to buy a Brumbies top and they wanted $155? Little AFL singlets at $100?

So this person didn’t continue membership because the name stayed the same…. and now they want to buy merch, but only if it doesn’t include the name?? Makes sense…

All the jerseys have Canberra on the back, which is fine with me.

On a related note I reckon the merch is a bit pricey. I’ve bought a few items and followed the sales they’ve had – but I still won’t pay $50 plus $12.95 postage for a training singlet…

Thank you for this story and the related website, JB. Troller’s delight 🙂

It’s got three captains and twelve syllables – more is more!
