Gin & Tonics and Playgrounds for Babies

Hello All,

I’m hoping that collective Rioter wisdom might be able to help me with the following:

My family will be visiting from interstate in the next couple of weeks and want to take my partner (and me!) out for a G&T. I’m looking for a venue that will show off the glories of Canberra to them – somewhere with nice views or at least nice architecture. The G&T need not be amazing – as long as it’s decent, the venue is probably more important. Said family has a 10 month old, so somewhere that opens mid-arvo-ish on a weekend would be handy!

If The Ginger Room were still open I might have plumped for that, but alas…

Also, I’m trying to identify a good play area/playground for said 10 month old (on a separate outing to the G&Ts I hasten to add!). He’s not walking but sits well and likes swings, mini seesaws etc. Indoors or out is fine. I’d wondered about Mini-Q at Questacon but not sure if that’s better for little ‘uns who are mobile.

All thoughts gratefully received!

The best G&Ts in the Berra are at East Hotel in Kingston. They have a dedicated Gin and Whiskey Bar; adjacent to their restaurant OX. Great architecture and design inside too. Dunno if its suitable for kidlets but it’s definitely suitable for adult gin enjoyment time 🙂

Hyatt? Go for an afternoon tea.

Thank you folks! :-). Very handy and much appreciated.

sepi – is that Onred you’re thinking of?

Gins & Tonic…

Someone had to say it.

Mini-q isn’t going to be the best place for a 10 month old. It really is better for kids who are mobile and can explore I think.

The playground at Black Mountain peninsula is pretty good. I’d try not to over think the playground though – with a 10 month old, it’s really more about the parents than the kid. The kid would have just as much fun in the playground at the local shops!

The arboretum has a great view and a cafe with a great little playground. It can get a bit windy though.

The place up on red hill is nice for a drink – not sure what time the top part opens up though.

Black mountain playground is quite good.

Or weston park has a sand and water area and both have nice back drops for family photos.
