Ginninderra Creek bridge work

This in from Owen:

There is a bridge over Ginninderra Ck, (map below) about to have some extensive upgrading. This will impact on people who drive to West Belconnen along Ginninderra Dr as the bridge surface is to be removed, making it a one lane bridge I guess for the duration of the work. There are no advisory signs, yet.

I ride under this bridge almost daily and often wonder if it will try to do a Kings St Bridge trick. You can see the strengthening bars on the underside from 20 or more years ago. Either the bridge has weakened again or the design rules have changed forcing this upgrade.

For pedestrians and cyclists, a gap has now been made in the scaffolding work to permit access.

Signs now up. BTW the strengthening wasn’t 20 years ago, more like 7 or 8. Besides this work is to increase the weight limit on the bridge to allow heavier trucks, to as the press release said “…making it easier for drivers to get around Canberra’s northern suburbs to do their deliveries and make their pickups,”

God knows what type truck is making deliveries or pickups out that way that needs a heavier truck.
