Ginninderra Drive closed on Sunday as they GDE goes over the top

John Hargreaves as helpfully put out a media release (as usual with Sonic’s mug peering over the top) warning that Ginninderra Drive is going to be closed (!!!) on Sunday.

The reason is they’re putting the bridge over the Drive for the GDE. It’s just a shame that, from the look of it, there won’t be anywhere to take photo’s from as the bridge beams arrive under police escort and get swung into position.

Apparently the link from the Barton Highway to Ginninderra Drive is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year. And then just watch those rats run through Lyneham!

Spectra, the Government has a history of short-sighted road construction in the last decade or so. You need only look at Gundaroo and Gungahlin Drive in the north. Both were single lane bottlenecks, and Gundaroo drive is still that way. The population has more than exceeded the road infrastructure, yet the Government seem content with offering more short term bandaid solutions for what is the transport equivalent of a broken leg.

Random: Yep, that’s exactly what they’re doing. Not my idea of an expressway either, but since I can’t change it, I’ll reserve final judgement until I see the traffic volume when it opens.
After all, if the (non-trivial) amount of money it would cost to duplicate it really could be better spent somewhere else right now, then it’s perhaps not the worst idea in the world.

Your kidding? They’re not doing that single lane with space for another thing are they?

Most retarded thing about Canberra I ever saw is that single lane now, double lane meh thing.

“Apparently the link from the Barton Highway to Ginninderra Drive is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year.”

This may be so, but the fact that it is going to be a single lane bottleneck right through to Calvary does not fill me with confidence. I can’t for the life of me understand why the gummint would put in a single lane “expressway” – just more narrow-minded cost cutting I guess.

Damn, Have a wedding to go to on Sunday, otherwise I would have gone ninja styles with the D70 in tow.

usually I find rock up and portray interest on what people are doing and they wull allow a ( safe ) vantage point for you to pursue your hobby in photographing feats of modern engineering with regard to pre stressed post tensioned construction

no promises though

hmm I visit my mum in North Lyneham on Sunday arvos,
there are no times specified on the press release but if the weather is dandy I can pop up and see what I can see

What about walking up onto that reserve on the Western edge of North Lyneham? That may not be a bad vantage point. I’d go and take some shots myself, but my Sunday’s already booked out.
