Glen Porritt refused bail

After issuing photos of Glen Porritt a couple of weeks ago, police caught up with him on the Gold Coast the other day and brought him back to Canberra.

Police yesterday named Mr Porritt a “significant witness” in the investigation into his mother’s murder, the Canberra Times reported.

He failed to show to a directions hearing for the inquest and a warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued. He was arrested in Surfers Paradise by police who had initially stopped him for not wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle. Apparently he allegedly falsely told police his name was Christopher Davies.

ACT Chief Magistrate Ron Cahill refused bail, saying there was too much of a risk he would leave Canberra again. Mr Cahill said Porritt had taken “fairly precise steps to disappear” and the fact he had left his home, his job, moved interstate and allegedly given police in Queensland a false name all indicated he was trying to avoid appearing at the inquest.

“The inquiry is serious enough and his role in the inquiry is significant enough for me to ensure that he is here,” Mr Cahill said.

FC that is basically what people close to me have said. That there is almost no way that he did it.

I went to school with the guy and know the family and it looks like he didn’t do it. It is just the media manipulating the facts to get a good story.
He is a bit quiet, but not violent nor dangerous. Vicouse rumours were going around before he left the ACT and he probably left to get away from all the negative attention.
Police haven’t got any leads (or any evidence on Glen) and just need to point the finger at someone.

“Apparently he allegedly falsely…” Hey Kerces, couldn’t we simplify this a little by just saying that “Allegedly he told police his name was Christopher Davies.” Sorry to be picky, but let’s keep the language simple.

I know people who have known the kid for years and say that they would be very suprised if he did it.

Bit off topic, but does anyone know what happened outside Cube/Antigos Saturday morning? We were in town at 9am and there were cops all over the place, and plenty of little evidence cones on the ground.

I think the wording in the CT article the day after the murder was very apt.
It stated that witnesses had seen a man leaving the scene aged between 18-25 of a certain height. The very next line it mentioned that she had a son named glen who was 22. They’ve all but said that he is the number one suspect the day after the murder.

Yes, but why did the little scallywag run away?

Certainly sounds that way.

guy i work with said he went to uni with him, and he seemed like an odd little chappy then..

I wonder what he has to hide?????
