For all interested RA’ers there will be a media conference held this Wednesday 4th June 5:30pm at the National Press Club addressing the Global Food Crisis and how to mitigate it. This is being held simultaneously with other organisations around the world to highlight the failed WTO policies. For details contact Douglas Mitchell on 0422432179 or see http://cecaust.com.au/main.asp?sub=releases&id=2008_05_19_Food_Crisis.html.

This a better thread than “where can I get a cup of coffee?”

Marginally.

Ah yes, the economic ‘firewall’ chappie. Classic.

The CEC are about a conspiracy theorist nutgroup and are as bizarre as they come.

There’s an old Election interview with one of their people elsewhere on the site, but their platforms run along the lines of:
The British Commonwealth (ruled by the Queen’s Privy Council instead of the Parliament) is behind the drug-dependant economies of the West,
That all farm forclosures are illegal and must be immediately stopped,
That Jews & gays & aboriginals are part of a worldwide conspiracy,
and also that their main opponents are apparently a loosely-defined group called “Synarchists”, a masonic cult that worships Napoleon Bonaparte.

They have 550 members nationally, and in the seats they ran candidates last election, they won 0.22% of the first-preference vote.

They are hardly a force to be considered, and probably not the best people to be trying to dictate food policy.

Nutjobs. See LaRouche’s write-up on Wikipedia. He did 15 years for fraud.

Hang on, something’s fishy here, I just had a look at their media release on their website http://cecaust.com.au/main.asp?sub=foodcrisis&id=2008_05_29_Press_conference.html. And then I noticed the “CEC” stands for Citizens Electoral Council, isn’t that some looney nutters extremest political group? It says their leader is Lyndon LaRouche, I’ve heard of him before in very unflattering terms. These types of groups often use a topical issue in an apparent sincere manner in order to get publicity and hence followers. Anyone know what they’re about?
