Gobby Git and the treacherous donkeys' northern flirtation

Foxsports informs us that Matt Giteau has escaped with a fine after slagging off the sacked Steve Walsh (a rugby referee with a novel belief in the concept of a double movement in a game with no such law).

The Git is also going to have to write a letter of apology to Steve Walsh which we’d pay good money to see, assuming it isn’t heavily ghost written by Noreen from Brumbies reception.

In other Brumbies news it seems they are back to their cheating ways, having been spurned in their efforts to seduce the Murray Darling Basin they’ve announced they’re taking a pre-season home game to Darwin.

But unless they dramatically change the way they play who will miss them.

Having a go at the Walsh after his dismal performance is one of the few things that Giteau has done right of late. I wish he had kicked Walsh out on the full. Refs like Walsh are destroying the game and its is time that these refs, who are too precious by far, are able to be criticised for poor performance just as the players are.

First, I know Matt Giteau is probably extraordinarily well-paid for what he does and that $5000 won’t hurt too much. But should someone stand outside the stadium, in an accountable sort of way, I expect most ofthose walking past would chuck in something to compensate the man who said what most people were thinking (although he was more polite).

Second, the apology letter. Having crafted thousands of these in a lengthy career, may I offer:
“Dear Mr Walsh
I have been informed that you were offended by remarks I made about your refereeing that were reported in the Canberra Times. I regret that you were offended. I also acknowledge that your refereeing skills are of a standard beyond any comment that I or any other person could make.
Bestest
MG”
