Another ABC story on the re-opening of a sand mine at Yass after the closure of the Tharwa sand mine last year. In the murky world of the building industry I wonder what deals were made to close one, re-open another and maintain the supply of a vital building component.

Been there for years.

“Bredbo sand and gravel” is located off the Bredbo-Jerangle road (the road is the first turn to the left after you’ve gone through the town towards Cooma, but just before the bridge).

I don’t know what the other one is called, but see plenty of trucks entering and exiting from it. It’s accessed from an unmarked gate on the right hand side of the Monaro Highway after you’ve gone through Bredbo, and just prior to the Billilingira Road, so about 3km from town….

Are they new? a few years ago there were claims we had not alternatives to Yass

There’s two big sand mines operating in Bredbo.

Don’t worry, we’re not going to run out of sand for building and construction for a long long time.
