Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here knows of any great Canberra venues for a 21st?

I live in Belconnen so North side would be prefered. I went to one recently at the Gungahlin Lakes function room and that was lovely but just wanted to ask if any of you had been to any great functions recently that you could recommend the venue.

Many thanks.

Be very careful about throwing a big party. You can sometimes end up dealing with jerks who are “invited” by a friend but you have no idea who they are or why they are there consuming drinks you are paying for.

Or if daddy is paying, it doesn’t really matter. Just have a great time. I’d pick Old Parliament House.

George Harcourt Inn in Nicholls would love to hear from you.

Lawn bowls club. You generally pay a small fee per person for bowls hire. Drinks are really cheap and you can self cater if you want. I did 40 people, bowls, drinks and food for under $1000.

I alwayss thought HA-HA bar in Belconnen would be nice for a special event like that. It is a great size to get a bit of atmosphere going and nice howw it is on the lake

Depends how much you would like to spend and where you want it to be.

Canberra Yatch Club outdoor setting ended up being just under $4K for 50 people. This included some drinks, cake, decorations, table setting, DJ and heating. This was held at the end of June for a close friend so no expenses spared. I’m sure it could be done a lot cheaper.

Some of the clubs in Kingston and Manuka will also rent out a section of their club for $200-800 (depending on the club, some don’t do 21st at all).

Trinity Bar in Dickson hosted my friend’s 21st. That turned into a really good night and I think costed around $400. This was back in 2008.

The Party Bus is also a great option depending on the group of friends you invite. There’s also the Lake Party Boat (I think there’s still one in operation?).

Alternatively, my parents took me and the then boyfriend’s family and some of our close family out to Larida Wineries out at Lake George for lunch. I have no idea how much it cost (thanks Mum and Dad), but in late September it was absolutely perfect. The staff there were so lovely and treated us just like family popping in for a spot of lunch on a Saturday. Mum baked a wonderful cake (she’s a star at pavlova). I felt like an absolute princess and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to ring in 21 with my family.
