Good computer shops?

Hi all – I’m looking at upgrading the desktop beast with a couple of schmicky new monitors but am having a deal of a time finding websites for local computer shops to get some pricing. The listing in the Yellow Pages is minimal and the few I’ve looked at (Techwarehouse and Cougar) seem on the exxy side. (Not really interested in the Hardly Normals, Dick Smiths, Harris’ etc either)

Any recommendations?

Thanks spoono, Buzzbyte seem pretty good from their site.

Do Best Price Computers have a website?

Try Buzzbyte Computers

It’s a guy operating out of Aranda I think.
No shopfront but he’ll deliver stuff to your door and let you pay COD. No hassle and good prices.

Best Price Computers in Civic.

Re-New Computers in Fyshwick:

PC Connections in Cooleman Court:

Both good local computer shops.

Many thanks everyone – this have given me a few more choices – I think I’ll cruise on down to the computer fair on the weekend and see how things go there.

Thanks, Harold, I hadn’t heard of them before. Their prices seem better than Harris’ & Cougar’s, but are still significantly more expensive than many interstate retailers.

I’ve heard good things about Home Computer Centre in Mawson.

Look under parts list.

I’ve heard techwarehouse is good as well, although there was a place doing deals at non-Canberra prices in Phillip a while ago, again, can’t remember the name.

techwarehouse at Mitchell resonable prices
online as well

If you’re willing to pay for quality (and don’t want to go apple) then Cougar are a good bet.

otherwise the computer fair isn’t a bad cheapy route.

Colsim, if you find a local store with prices approaching the computer markets or any of the cheaper online vendors in other states (Umart, gamedude, jpldisplays etc) let me know too!

No real suggestions other than computer fair as mentioned, however I would urge you to avoid the little joint on Mort Street, Braddon. Can’t recall the name but I’ve had incredibly frustrating experiences with that particular operator.

Cheers guys – the Dell’s are purty, not sure if I can stretch that far though – 2 19″s are more likely.

Always been slightly iffy about the computer market for big things, just with the challenge of support if there are problems. (as opposed to a local shopfront)

Before you buy a screen, be sure to check out Dell’s lovely 2405FPW (24″) and 2005FPW (20″) LCD jobbies. Pretty much the same as the Apple Cinema displays, but a lot cheaper.

go to the computer markets on at EPIC this weekend

I’ve bought a few things from Orange Computer & Networking at a good price and haven’t had any trouble with it
