Good places in the City to have a private function?

Hey rioters,

I’m looking for a good Bar/Club/Lounge in the City for a smallish function (<50 people).

Ideas?

I was thinking “1927” but supposedly they’ve changed their name and I can’t find any details on them.

Kremlin’s lower floor can be hired for around 50 people. I held a Halloween Party there of about 40 people last year and the space worked really well – as long as you don’t mind leaving the top section for regular clientelle that is. Nick and the bar staff were really good, and we could arrange whatever catering we liked (we had a mix of their tapas and cupcakes I baked.) They have no room fee and a minimum spend instead – when they assure you you’ll easily reach the minimum, believe them. I doubted it but we went well and truly over. This was a combination of an initial bar tab and then guests buying their own drinks after the first couple of hours.

Good luck planning your event 🙂
p.s. Knightsbridge also do functions

Kremlin has a max occ of about 150 from memory. Sadly I’ve been told by a variety of people that the new owners have stripped much (if not all) of the quirky Soviet theme.

Kremlin is good but a bit big for the group. Why not go upmarket and have it in Manuka or Kingston? Sounds like the right sized function for Vinyl Lounge.

Vinyl Room upmarket? hahahahaha
Really, Kremlin is probably a good option. And a good size.

There is a meeting room (war room?) and kitchen at the top of the Carillion

It’s a great little spot, but I don’t think it’ll hold 50 people. Quite a lot less, unfortunately.

I was assuming that everyone would be upright all night but if a few become prostrate then there would be a problem so fair comment EJ.

There is a meeting room (war room?) and kitchen at the top of the Carillion with fabulous 360 degree views. Access is by private elevator and you have to provide your own catering (which is way cheaper than doing it at a bar or club).
The downside is that there is no toilet “at the top” so a trip to ground level is required and a security guard must be in attendance at the ground level entrance at all times. I think Canberra Connect would have details of who to contact. It’s something different.

Toilet issue covered- there are public toilets across the way from the Carillion with a revolving door of attendants most weeknights.

Talk about repeat offenders.

You can guarantee when ever a question like this is asked someone will go the Mcdonalds ( scottish restaurant) line.

We have used the Hippo Bar (hippobar.com.au) successfully before. A bit of style and attitude.

ditto – used the hippo for a significant function a while back and they were very helpful; had own caterers bring in comestibles, hippo was an open bar and played most excellent grooves [and even stopped for quiet when we had the speechy bits]. gets my vote.

Yacht Club at Yarralumla or Hyatt function room. Last probably a bit pricey.

1927 is now called Sfizio, great little cocktail lounge, I highly recommend them, great staff and atmosphere.

Try McDonalds in Cooyong Street, Braddon. Fantastic food, beautiful cakes, delicious coffee…
