Goodnight Beanort

Justbands is reporting that Beanort, who briefly became Sunday City, have amicably broken up.

Featured in various reviews on Riotact (in RA’s early days as a torchbearer for the local music scene), Beanort had quite a local following from their original 3 piece teenage chick-rock days through to national touring and JJJ airplay.

The split is no real surprise given Kat’s success with her other band The Golden Age, but a shame the Beanies didn’t get around to a final farewell show for the Canberra faithful. Still, best of luck to Kat and Adi ( and Dave, and even Luke and Korn) for the future, thanks for some fun gigs and top songs.

[ED – Previous beanort coverage was capacious until they made it very clear they didn’t like it. I still have a t-shirt and a CD and they got a mention in tonight’s podcast.]

JB – no offence on the past tense. If I was able to access podcasts I’m sure I’d enjoy em. These days I would say there are fewer gig reviews of local scene on RA, which were usually hilarious and which I miss, but that’s mainly because other sites (inspired by RA?) have come onstream with a more musical focus. And the plugs are plentiful and always welcome.

David H – OK, Beanort had their ups and downs like most Canb bands, but at the minimum “Soupa!” belongs on any jukebox of classic Canberra catchy guitar pop. End of story!

C’mon Mal, you’re a man of decorum and taste. If Beanort had been blokes they would have bee booed off stage.

Beanort/Sunday city WERE good. Rocks in your head Davey.

Beanort were pretty good I thought David, each to their own. Mr Bayliss is back in town I believe.

Benort were without doubt the worst band I’ve ever heard.

PS – What ever happened to that spikey haired git, Bayliss? (spelling)

& yes…RiotACT is still a very important resource for local music. Keep up the good work!

*ahem*

A link to the JB’s article you are referencing perhaps guys? 😉

maybe it was reference to the fact that there were no other web communities dedicated to the promotion of live music :))…. I think ra is still a beacon for music with the podcasts…whenever I search for local bands on the interweb riotact is one of the first sites to come up…..

And what’s with the past tense on torchbearer?? two hours a week in podcasts plus innumerable plugs for local bands on one of Canberra’s most visited websites counts for naught?
