Are there really that many bad parkers out there? Or is it the same few, constantly being photographed over and over again?

Mysteries!

Spotted a dud park? Take a photo and send it to us at images@the-riotact.com.
Make sure you let us know what name you’d like to be credited as.

1. Claire sent us this wonderful example:

This person double-parked two of us at ANU the other day. Tried to get them booked but they were gone before security got to them.

2. Chas spotted the work of some scholars at UC.

A couple for your collection. Taken in a University of Canberra car park.

clever smart

3. Holden Caulfield stumbled onto this one:

I snapped this one yesterday morning on Bunda Street, apologies for not sending it in sooner. To be fair the blue Ford was gone a few moments later, although there was nobody inside the car when I took the pic. Alas, the Toyota had its arse hanging outside the lines for some time.

4. Ryan sympathises:

Not driving up on the gutter is hard when there isn’t much space…

blargh

5. MsCheeky spotted this exclusive park:

This one at the very limited parking at Flute Bakery!

6. Stephanie didn’t actually spot this park herself, but has mined Facebook for gold and found this for us.

I found this gem on facebook, I removed names for privacy, up to you what to do with the face in the picture. (I am all for shaming 😛 )
I just love the ignorance of the ‘parker’ as shown in her comment

7. Martlark found us this little gem:

Here is another bad parking picture taken outside the Belconnen churches center.

8. Busbooster stopped boosting buses to snap this image:

I saw this poor fellow wandering about Cooleman Court on Tuesday, talking on his moby. Maybe he was confused about where he’d parked his car? Oh, that’s right, because he parked in in the MIDDLE OF THE FREAKING ROAD instead of in a legal parking place. That’s him right there getting back in…smile!

9. Mark has given us these gifts:

Firstly an old favourite with the Jamison disabled spots on Thursday and secondly in Suburbia up the road from me on Friday morning, a most excellent example – obviously an upwardly mobile NSW driver trying hard to be accepted as an ACT driver.

10. Porkhunt tailed this talented driver:

Hi RA team, spotted this piece of quality driving at the cnr of London and Constitution on my way home from work this afternoon. Not sure what category it fits as no bumper sticker nor parked.

11. Tim_C has gone above and beyond this week by allowing us access to his extensive archives of parking photos… Serious Tim sent us 38 pictures this week. 38. The bar has been raised and to celebrate, enjoy this slideshow of the Tim Collection.

38. Wow…

Doesn’t matter where you park, people know why you park in the corner spot, so they will park next to you, with the whole carpark virtually empty.

I park in the corner spot so I can get the toddler in and out without dinging someone else’s car… is this what you mean? Otherwise, the implication is that we have an epidemic of people who want to put their car doors in harms way just to put you out.

There is definitely a problem at Calvary. I doubt there would be anyone parking there who were not staying, working or visiting the hospital. I know more people need to consider car pooling, public transport and cycling options, however at the end of the day, there will always be a large number people needing to park there.

Much the same could be said of TCH, whose overflow parking consists of pretty much every spare bit of land (private or public) in a 1km radius…

Damn you! You beat me every time……..

Every fifth time I’ll let you win, because I am so incredibly nice and non-patronising.

I tend to park at the end of a row if I can, or next to the pillars in the underground carparks, I have my reason for this, the main reason being that I like to get into my car from the door I got out from.

A few years ago I went to Spotlight when I was 7 months pregnant, when I came out to my car I became very distressed as there was a car parked very close to mine on the drivers side, as you might imagine a pregnant woman cannot just jump in on the passenger side and scoot across to the driver’s seat, so I had to wait, very unimpressed was I !!!!

To be honest I dont blame people parking across two car spots in some locations.

The amount of car door dings etc i have got on my car from inconsiderate Canberra motorists is quite pathetic.

Ah no they don’t park like that to avoid getting dings they do so because they’re clueless.

You can’t be serious?

A few of the images in the slideshow appear to be from the Calvary Hospital car park…it really is ‘come as you are’ bushwacking Canberra style car parking. I used to work there and often parked on the gravel due to an extreme lack of parking in the area. I once had the pleasure of parking on an ant nest. Another time cars got stuck near the Specialist Centre due to a flash flood.

There is definitely a problem at Calvary. I doubt there would be anyone parking there who were not staying, working or visiting the hospital. I looked at the slideshow and thought that they all looked normal – as in something you see every day – for Canberra – so much so that whilst it’s a bit annoying, we generally do nothing about it. Why is it that people insist on parking up on the pavement – even when there is nothing else on the road and the road is quite adequate?

We have unleased land opposite our house and the number of people who use that over their own driveways is ridiculous. No doubt the same people who would spout on about their green credentials, whack solar panels on their roof, a tank in the garden and keep chooks to eat the scraps, but feel ok to destroy the environment by parking their hulking great four wheel drive on land that is not even theirs just so they don’t have to do a car shuffle if they are home first.

I’ll see that and raise you my neighbour who uses the entrance to the firetrail between us as his visitor parking.

Thank you number 1, because you allow me to say Spotto!

I took great joy in parking next to a woman at Calwell shopping centre on Saturday morning who had trouble parking her 4WD straight, and in the centre of, the parking bay.

Whilst she wasn’t parked illegally, she obviously failed to consider that if a car, any car, parked next to her she wouldn’t be able to get out or back in through the driver’s side door.

As I returned to my car after using the ATM she was reversing and re-entering the parking bay to allow herself ease of exit/access to her vehicle.

What amused me most was the look on her face as if I was the bad guy. I was driving our very small, second and hardly used vehicle and was smack bang in the centre of my bay.

No mention of the Subi parked in the dirt, facing the wrong way, on the eastbound side of the Parkes Way clusterfvck under Black Mountain?

I’m loving these threads – keep them coming.

Gripe of the week for me is when people manage to park right across a footpath.
