swans

I snapped these two black swans in Commonwealth Park yesterday while waiting for he artillery battery to open up.

(Incidentally with the way their population is booming we’re going to need a difficult conversation about it sometime soon)

I love these birds – i love Bowen Park, the swans there have a force behind their peck when taking the food i bring them, it doesn’t hurt though. I’ve even had my finger in ones mouth when he got excited at feeding time – it’s like having your finger in a beer bottle neck, thats slimy, it also doesn’t hurt hehe. The animals in this town are fantastic, in my life here since my family moved here when i was 9 – i have had the pleasure of waking up to kangeroo’s in my front yard, echidna’s wandering into the neighbours yard and helping retrieve them safely and taking them to their home. I feed wild birds in my yard, beautiful parrotts, and currawongs and magpies ( curra’s and maggies all by hand, and they bring their babies to me) – awesome looking gold web orb spiders in my garden, and the lovely little bearded dragons i used to catch for a pat and release when i was a kid. For all the faults people find in this town – no one can deny we have some fantastic nature.

I don’t like swans. They’re mean, greedy and scary. But they are beautiful from a distance.

We had a couple on our local pond. The dog swam out to them once and turned back immediately when one of them hissed at her. I used to have a dog who would take on kangaroos, but she wouldn’t come near these swans.

a swan going the goose?

LOL Classic!

From what I saw the other day they have taken to hanging out on the ground beside the lake, rather than on the lake.

Humans aren’t allowed on the lake at the moment but look how the bird life is booming as you suggest jb. Two major floods and blue green algie in that filthy puddle haven’t put a dent in their numbers.
