Shane Rattenbury is winding up the dudgeon on the glacial pace of adding environmental processes to the ACT Government:
The Greens have condemned the Government’s lack of action on a Commissioner for the Environment Report that was provided to the Minister in October 2010 and which found significant flaws in government processes.
Report on an Audit/Assessment of ACT Government Agencies Environmental Performance Reporting was not tabled in the Assembly until December 2011, and highlights a series of deficiencies in Government Agencies’ environmental assessment and reporting procedures.
Key findings from the Report include:
• A lack of a whole-of-government approach to data collection and reporting on environmental resource use
• Failure by all bar one government agencies to complete their Resource Management Plans in the recommended timeframes and
• Data collection inconsistencies and inaccuracies, including reported electricity usages that were consistently less than half that recorded by ActewAGL.“The tardy reaction by Government to these findings is extremely disappointing,” said Greens Environment spokesperson Shane Rattenbury.
