Really brief as I’m running late to get out there but Government House is having it’s open day today from 10a-4p. The minimal entry cost goes to The Smith Family and there will be several musical and artistic events on display, ex-Oz Idol Hayley Jensen being one (meh) and the National Capital Orchestra being another (which is what I’m going to see – I understand their are performing the Planets, first performance at midday and another at 2pm)

Govt House website and details here and the full media release here.

Hope some of you get out there and enjoy the day.

There was a big crowd there, so lining up was required to tour the house or to get some food & drinks. The grounds are big enough though that you can find a shady spot under a tree without knocking elbows with anyone else. I only went to see the NCO play, but next year plan to make a whole day of it.

Do these days attract a big crowd? I’ve often thought of going, but have always wussed out expecting the crowds to be a bit annoying?!

A great location for a relaxing afternoon listening to the music, enjoying a picnic or having a walk. Certainly would like to see more open days on the calendar although I think the logistics could be a bit difficult.

Interesting how the location seems to bring out the received pronunciation amongst the cardigan wearers.

Thanks to General Jeffery and Mrs Jeffery for facilitating the day and also good to see them both out and about chatting to the passers by.

I was there to see the orchestra. Great day.

we went – it was lovely, a really good day.
