Somehow we missed last year’s trouble for former Boys Grammar student Ryan Bowman “One-time high flying entrepeneur… who helped launch the GirlsGoneWild soft porn business in Australia”.

An upshot of the Bentley driving hit and run in LA which killed Lauren Ann Freeman was a year’s prison sentence.

Keen eyed readers have pointed out that the latest edition of the old boys mag features Ryan in the “Where are they now” section (p36). (our copy here in case it meets with misfortune.

Ryan Bowman
(1994)

I have recently set up a business in Los Angeles, distributing and importing films into Australia. I enjoy driving fast cars and i have recently bought a Bentley, which i like to race here in LA. I’m also a big fan of unusual architecture and accommodation and have recently moved into a really cool post-industrialist style building. If any CGS old boys are visiting LA for a few days, I’d love to catch up!

Well played.

No surprises there.

I went to give a presentation to one of the junior year groups there a few years ago at the request of a colleague who has kids there. We were in an assembly hall, and the kids were sitting on the floor. Most of them were polite and behaved appropriately, but there were a surprising number of arrogant arsehats in the group. After about half a dozen had laid back on the floor with their hands under their heads and shut their eyes I interrupted my spiel and told them to sit up and pay attention in a fairly abrupt manner. The astounded “You can’t talk to me like that” looks I received were priceless.

I wonder if anybody else does ever talk to them like that, or whether they are simply the Chosen Ones who are never admonished.

I’m not sure, maybe they peg the one’s most likely to succeed and feed their egos until they become like that. I don’t know, it’s a shame really. Tim (GF’s younger bro) isn’t a bad person, per se, it’s just that his parents failed to teach him that the world doesn’t revolve around him and was re-enforced through his elitist schooling.

I made friends, briefly, with a very intelligent young man from CGS when he moved to my school (Lyneham) in year 10. I soon dissolved the friendship though, because he just seemed to manipulate everyone around him, and you could never tell when he was opening up, or just setting you up for some scheme or other. He just did everything for his own pleasure, and he did so in such a deceptive and smarmy manner that I couldn’t stand his company any more.

My gf’s younger brother just graduated from CGS last year and I couldn’t help but be struck by the similarities. Self-important, spoiled, cock-sure and selfish. These traits seem to be instilled in Grammar boys from the moment they start schooling there. The culture of elitism there makes me want to be sick.

I’d say your “keen-eyed reader” would be whoever orchestrated this wind-up.

As you say – well-played!

I hope that someone has tipped the parole board off about the “really cool post-industrialist style building” ‘joke’… What a jerk.

Small world. Maybe he shouldn’t mention the Bentley.

You’d think that someone in the Boys Grammar office would have noticed that the update was emailed from an address ending in @lacountyjail.com

Very witty.

i enjoy driving a posh car like an idiot, making selfish choices thinking only of myself, and then kill an innocent person and take off like a coward….

what a hero.

I remember that dude from High School, what a wanker.

No idea about any of this or why it’s worth noting, but putting the text back together, I’d suggest that a prison would not commonly be described as “a really cool post-industrialist [sic] style building”. Unless it’s the AMC, of course.
